I remember going out of the theater in the mall and going down to the record store to get the soundtrack

I saw this movie in theaters and I loved it. Once it came out on DVD with the bootleg version, I was floored. The adding in of material made the movie so much more grounded and you really get involved in the characters so much more. I don't remember what is real and not but I do remember the dvd had a directors commentary with Cameron Crowe and his mother. The one thing she said was incorrect was that she would never go barefoot in the house hahaha. I think the use of actual songs as score makes this movie fantastic.

Stillwater was a fake band. The actors were singing the songs that you see the band sing that were made for the soundtrack album written by 70s rockers. Cameron Crowe was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone. Most of the other bands that got name checked in this movie were real bands he followed, and some of these stories came from experiences with these other famous bands. After rolling stone, he wanted to do a project with him going back to high school, which became Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
