The Boondocks was originally a satirical comic strip that ran in the 90s about two boys, 10 year old Huey and 8 year old Riley who move from Chicago to Woodcrest with their Grandad. The comic served as a place where creator Aaron McGruder would commentate on American politics and African American culture through the eyes of Huey. Like you've noticed, the characters are depictions of common "stereotypes" in the Black community. Huey the cynical revolutionary socialist (named after Huey P Newton), stylized by the Fidel Castro type outfit he wore to the garden party and the Malcolm X type pose he struck when looking out the window with the gun. Riley the gangster wannabe, stylized with his Tony Montana type fit he wore to the garden party, and grandad Robert the complicit boomer. There will be A LOT more characters so stay tuned. The voice cast is also star studded, featuring lots of prominent figures in Black entertainment. Both Huey and Riley are voiced by Regina King, Grandad is voiced by John Witherspoon (RIP), and Ed Wuncler III. is voiced by Charlie Murphey (RIP). It'll be fun to see if y'all recognize voice actors and music later down the line. These reactions are gonna be so good! Shit gets more ridiculous and the political and social commentary hasn't aged a day, especially season 1. Looking forward to the next one
