Eren couldn't find a path that ended conflict between Eldians on Paradis Island and the World so the path he took was to kill as much of the world outside the walls to give his friends a long peaceful life before conflict arose again. The manga didn't have the same dialog in the end they added some dialog that made it better than the nonsense that was in the manga very small changes made all the difference. The last scene some were saying was Mikasa's descendent that was in search of Eren's grave possibly restarting the cycle again. I had a theory because we never see what happened to the parasite thing so it could be it found Eren again thus the tree looking how it did at the end.

He was better then Eren but them having their final conversation of how the outside world looked like truly shows their friendship was still intact and Mikasa sitting next to Eren’s gravestone she still had feelings for him even though she found happiness but she died having the scarf on to remember how she stilled loved Eren😔. I watched it twice and got teary eyed.
