You're right I just went back an reread that chapter. Wish they never changed it. The anime didn't explain why byakuya used his bankai as well as the manga did and it didn't even explain why the others used theirs.

Byakuya did it because he figured in a 2v1 is his Bankai got “sealed” then Renji could just finish the opponent off with his own Bankai since they can’t steal more than one a person, Komomura used his since he thought that seeing the way they “seal” Bankai would give them the intel to be able to unseal them, Hitsugaya used his since he figured that if they seal it then he and Rangiku could find a way to break the seal, and Soi Fon thought if she used Bankai fast enough then she could kill them BEFORE they could use the seal. Unfortunately they were all wrong in thinking it was a “seal” and instead got their Bankai stolen from them.
2023-01-11 22:41:11 +0000 UTCIn the manga there was a small clarification that Byakuya attacked with his first because he's better at figuring out strategy on the fly and analyzing fights, but it was removed because they removed a lot of the humor bits (and it was more of Byakuya going "you're kinda not smart" to Renji)
