Regulation Advent Day 17
Added 2024-12-17 12:00:08 +0000 UTCAs you watch us open another day of things it has me wondering what was the best holiday gift you received? My fondest memory is getting a GameCube and playing Animal Crossing until the sun came up.
It might not be the best gift but it always brings me joy to give this free month of XM to someone.

I’m loving Nick’s hot sauce pairings, even if most of them are “hmmm, eggs”.

2024-12-19 01:56:51 +0000 UTCAccording to Google searches, currants are dried forms of the seedless "black corinth" and "carina" grapes. They are essentially rasins for those specific grape varieties. Raisins are dried dark grapes and sultanas are dried green grapes. The US calls sultanas golden raisins. I also frequently thought about what a currant was. Now I know and figured this would be a great place to share.

2024-12-18 16:13:54 +0000 UTCI watched this while opening my own advent calendar for the day! It’s a gems and rocks calendar. I got Tigers Eye. Merrrrrrrry Xmas!

2024-12-18 12:17:44 +0000 UTChonestly it is a travesty that Blackcurrant is so often overshadowed by Grape as the default purple flavour when Blackcurrant is the superior one.

2024-12-17 22:53:00 +0000 UTCThe kite (the toy/thingy mcjig dealio) is named after the red kite bird from what I remember. My grandpa is a big bird guy, loves purple martins. He told me the kite tidbit years ago :D

2024-12-17 20:36:09 +0000 UTCBlack currant has been banned for cultivation in the US since the early 1900s. The federal ban was lifted mid century but states have kept their bans.

2024-12-17 18:03:20 +0000 UTCIt’s an EU thing. Directive 2019/904
Chris C.J Jones
2024-12-17 17:57:02 +0000 UTCNot true in the slightest even though I’m not a fan of that glorified cook. It’s EU directive 2019/904 saying any bottle under 3 litres must have a tethered cap. And while the UK isn’t part of the EU anymore most companies that do both UK/EU it’s easier to just make it all compliant.

2024-12-17 17:56:37 +0000 UTCFrom what I can see in a quick search, Oxford dictionary has the earliest known use of Red Kite down as 1792 while Kites they toy are over 3000 years old.

2024-12-17 14:41:02 +0000 UTCIn North American terms, US terms the The fruit called current, is actually a grape and in its family of fruit because it is a Vine fruits. Problem currents or outlaw to be grown in the eastern eastern United States because it kills our major lumber trees like pine trees. And the artificial grape flavoring is supposed to be the flavor current

2024-12-17 13:48:21 +0000 UTCLooked it up, toy kites are apparently named after the bird. So even though toy kites were invented a long time ago (in China), and the bird being called a kite in old English happening after their invention, when the toy was really introduced to the European audience as a toy, it was named after the bird due to how they similarly soared through the sky.

2024-12-17 13:13:47 +0000 UTCMy favorite gift was getting my Game Boy Advance. That shit blew my mind as a kid. I was super into handhelds since I was outside all the time, and my Dad would always be on the SNES or N64, so that one was amazing.

2024-12-17 12:58:00 +0000 UTCAs a kid in Florida in the 70's, my most memorable Christmas gift was my parents put me on a plane to relatives in Pennsylvania so I could see snow for the first time. Pretty exciting.

2024-12-17 12:39:43 +0000 UTCfun fact, my wife used to be in development for Mars UK. During Covid she would make test samples of little chocolates at home and once for fun I made a heinz baked bean chocolate. Absolutely rank. 0/10. You really should try it!

2024-12-17 12:26:26 +0000 UTCThere was one year i got everything i wanted on the list and every year i got a random book from some part of the family and i was thinking if they get this one book Christmas would be perfect. They got it by chance and it wasnt like an easy thing but a movie of it was coming out so they picked it cause they pushed it on bookstores with a still on the cover like they often do. I cant remember any of my other gifts that year but the book i do remember, still one of my all time favorites after all this time. A true Christmas miracle.

2024-12-17 12:25:33 +0000 UTCI would have to say that while getting a GameCube and animal crossing for me and my sister to share was a great Christmas present. My favorite one that I have gotten was a few years ago when my mom made me and each of my brothers and sisters a scrapbook of our lives up to that point. And she wrote us all handwritten notes in the back of them. I cried happy tears when I read it and still do anytime I reread it.

2024-12-17 12:07:37 +0000 UTCMy fondest memory is also Nintendo related. Got a Super Nintendo for Christmas and even though my parents were never the prankster type, I couldn't let myself believe it was there til I opened it up and could physically confirmed I actually got it because I was told over and over we couldn't get it and I was overjoyed it was actually there.
