(The closest I've ever been to "Newfndlnd" is that a college friend's fathers relocated there for a bit - I never visited - and it was shockingly wrong to *my* ear.)

I am a big root beer guy, so I definitely enjoyed it, but the specialty factor increases the price-per-bottle because you can only find it from small brands as like an $8 four pack

2024-12-07 02:53:20 +0000 UTCYes! When I grew up there (in the 80s), it was common to get a birch beer "ball" for parties. A brown glass globe with a pump on top. So it was not unusual to see a bunch of kids standing around filling up their own cups, just like a keg.
