I believe he said in some other content, I think a text post on patreon about this, that he funded everything himself including the patreon subscriptions because he wanted it to be a gift to his friends and the community. I think the idea is that he's very full of love and wanted to do this thing and now they can make content from it, but it is not done for the purpose of having content if that makes sense. Even the sentiment is very sweet behind the gestures themselves!
