Langwen Comic Style: Final Decision

So... I've more or less come to a decision. It's a surprising decision , and I feel I need to explain my thinking before I tell you what it is.

I want to preface by saying thank you, again, for all of your detailed replies. Even though my decision may not align with what many of you said you'd prefer, every single comment genuinely did help guide my own thoughts to their current conclusion. I'm really grateful for such a responsive community. You've made me seriously evaluate what it is I want from this comic.

One point that came up quite often was that the lined art had a "light, comic" style that to many of you felt fit this story, while the lineless art had a "dreamy, surreal" vibe to it, more like reading poetry vs an actual comic story. Now, Langwen is, at the core of it, a fairytale about someone who took love for granted and lost everything because he was  blinded by revenge. And I want this to feel like a fairytale, but obviously that's not coming through very well, which means I'm not doing it right. I really want it to feel like a fairytale.

I went back to reread TRATW and, ah, that's still the vibe I want. I really can't let it go. The feelings from the very initial concept comic I made for this story is still what I really, really want.

So, fortunately or unfortunately, I think I want to redo the chapters. I'm going to have to find a way to fix the flaws of this style, so perhaps a hybrid style that is closer to lineless.

I'm not entirely sure how that's going to shake up my schedule. I don't need to rewrite the script or replan the panels, so half the work is already done. (For violet patrons, I've already finished the last panels of Chapter 5, so you'll still get that today.) For the next 2 (maybe 3?) weeks for violet patrons, I'll be posting 1 psd file per week instead while I work on this. Once I finish redoing a chapter, I'll post it for violet patrons first, too.

As for the langwen chapter I post on the last wednesday of every month, well, chapter 5 is already done, so I may as well post that for everyone then. But chapter 6 forward will be posted in the new style.

I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. OTL The last few days I did not sleep well because I just felt so uncomfortable thinking about sticking with lined art. That means I obviously have my own subconscious opinions about this, so thinking through your comments and working through my own mess of thoughts, this is what I've found to be my truest desire.

I suppose this is a good lesson to any of you who want to create your own comic one day. It's a constant process of decision-making and second-guessing. You're witnessing in real time all these circles I'm running in. Creating a long term, story driven comic is Pain. But it really, really helps to have people who you can talk to and who can guide your own feelings <3 I can't stress enough how all of your comments helped me see what it is I wanted.

(I'm a go big or go home kind of person with personal projects... so while this is incredibly daunting to me, I want this to happen even more. But I'll take care of myself, donut worry.)

So, I think that's it for my post right now. Apologies again to my violet patrons for changing up the schedule. Please let me know if you have any questions. Wish me luck...

Thank you for reading!

Note: new pages of Bailin and Liyun coming in the next few weeks!! Big story plot moment, I hope you guys will enjoy!!! I'm very excited for you to read them. 8)
