I couldn't convince myself that a merman, after meeting a human for only TWO WEEKS, would have the motivation to take on a months-long swimming trip to find said human. Would you make such a trek for a human that you only met for 2 weeks?? I wouldn't
But with a tragic backstory? Makes a lil more sense
Mermen are social creatures just like humans, and Bailin's been lonely too long... after getting a taste of companionship, he couldn't let go
I am also dragging out their present-day meeting... delayed gratification babeyyy. I also just want to be mean sometimes
Fun note: his older brother is still alive and trying to find him
