Half Life 2 begins!

2025-01-27 14:39:22 +0000 UTCSO PUMPED. This game is incredible. I'm still playing it 20 years later. ETA: Watched it! I don't mind the slow pace at all. In fact, I'm here for it. Milk this thing as long as you can; there is _so much_ to this story. I've played the game so much I just breeze through the beginning. Seeing it at a pace closer to what the devs intended, noticing details I hadn't before (like the distant echoes of children playing in the playground), is priceless. You simultaneously have a beautiful, innocent wide-eyed wonder about every new game world, but you're also incredibly clever, amazingly skilled, and pick up on hints and lore I would never find on my own.

This is gonna be another wild playthrough, and I'm excited to see what happens! The way the last game literally went sideways at the end was glorious. Thank you and happy new year! They "remastered" it a bit, I think mostly to make sure it was playable on modern hardware, and NVIDIA has been helping add RTX to old games (like Quake RTX). The water and physics were super impressive in 2004, but not quite as nice as they look in the 2024 version on modern hardware. I believe that the name is intended to make the player think about the commercial farming equipment known as Combine Harvesters (eg: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combine_harvester). You can make your own conclusions about what a force named Combine is doing meddling in the "breeding" process of humans under their "protection."

Glad to see you're enjoying this so far, and appreciating the visuals as well - this game was mind blowing as far as graphics went when it was released (especially the facial animations) and still holds up really well twenty years later.
