Half Life Ending!

I just re-became a Patron after viewing your HL series. I joined back when you were doing Hollow Knight, then pared down my patreon list for a little while, but now that you're doing the HL franchise, frankly, I want to pay you for it. And I want early access for Half-Life 2! I got _very_ into Half-Life, to the point of recording my own story/lore-based playthrough and learning to speedrun it. Seeing you react to the amazing, imperfect, revolutionary chaos that is Half-Life and the GoldSrc engine was wonderful. Your names for things were priceless: calling Barney "Burt." Calling the snarks "fleas." I highly recommend you watch a speedrun of Half-Life (scriptless, RTA) with commentary. It is one of the most glorious (and optimized) runs out there. It is a total riot. Also, if you have a bit more time, go watch Freeman's Mind, which I'm positive others have mentioned already. Happy gaming! π«Άπ»

2024-12-24 22:03:06 +0000 UTCYou finished so quickly! I was sure Xen was going to take you longer than that. I'm SUPER excited you are moving on to Half-Life 2!!! I think you'll like Half-Life 2 way more than Half-Life 1. It's more modern (graphics, game style, physics, etc) with a stronger focus on story and characters. FYI, the "Source" engine that debuted with the game was a big deal at the time. Video games didn't have the kind of physics engines they do now until Half-Life 2. So... about the guy with the briefcase. He's called "The G-Man" and shows up no fewer than 8 times before that final scene. You caught many of them, actually, although you missed the very first one (near the end of the opening train-ride... you can see him in a few frames of your playthrough).

Full of hilariously chaotic moments while still showcasing what makes it one of the greatest games to this day. 2024-12-23 18:16:29 +0000 UTCJust finished the episode, and this was definitely a fun series that belongs in the Symbalily hall of fame. Half-Life is a great game and amazing for its time. But Half-Life 2 is an even greater all-time classic imo. Happy holidays!

2024-12-23 17:58:46 +0000 UTCReally excited to watch Half-Life 2. It's very much the superior game, and fixes a lot of the minor flaws with the first one. Xen in particular was very much rushed in Half-Life 1 - it definitely feels disconnected from the rest of the game and lacked a lot of the playtesting polish. You may be pleased to hear a lot of the "platforming" elements are gone in HL2 - they were an interesting concept but not perfectly executed.
