Added 2023-03-11 14:11:12 +0000 UTCHey everyone. I wanted to make a post to say thank you. I was so nervous about making a Patreon back in the day, and now I can't imagine making videos without it.
In total honesty I try to steer clear of the YouTube comment section nowadays! The comments can be really frustrating and so I try to avoid them just incase I run into a negative one. But to be able to have community interaction on videos here and read your tips and share the game that way has, in all honestly, I think saved the YouTube channel for me. I could not do this if I had such a negative or frustrating feedback loop as my only interaction with people. Its so easy to feel like people aren't enjoying the videos, so to hear and see the support here is really, really wonderful. I wanted to save this message for when I had something new and exciting to show but given the recent growth in support here I absolutely need to say a huge thank you now. I am working on something new, and although it may take ages to show anything, I want to say thank you for the support because it has inspired me to create content out of my comfort zone and just feel more creative and inspired again. Thank you everyone!
Secondly I have two Subnautica videos coming to Patreon this weekend so stay tuned 😈 (If I can get them out of Davinci without it crashing on me).
As for Star Wars, I want to play it. I may just binge it one weekend and upload the result of that as one finished playlist sometime in the next month for anyone to watch if interested. I don't want to interrupt Subnautica too much as I feel that's what people want to see right now, but it would mean that the game would be experienced COMPLETELY on my own, which could be a bit frustrating if I miss anything major ahaha.
As for Resident Evil 4 Remake, I have never played the original but was interested in looking at the remake! Buuut I am terrified to play any new releases on the channel again given how disastrous it felt last time ahaha.

2023-03-13 08:09:20 +0000 UTCI'm sorry to hear that the Youtube comments had such a negative effect on you. :( I've always felt that the Youtube comment section is a bit of a cesspool. :P It's a little better moderated now than it used to be, but it can still get pretty bad sometimes. If you need to avoid it for the sake of your mental health, that is completely understandable, especially considering how frequently you're overly hard on yourself. I'm sure you don't need anyone reinforcing your negative self-talk. I hope you find your future work and interactions more fun and engaging. :)

Resident Evil 4 play through sounds like it could be fun. Assuming it sticks very close to the original, its a pretty straight forward linear game. Its just fun to play. Tight mechanics.

Excellent to see how much better you're doing lately. Also I think RE4 is a great idea! The demo that just came out has enough content for 1 video, so that might be a good way to dip into it and see what you think. (Though the full release is already less than 2 weeks away! Time flies)

I am convinced a lot of people enjoy your content. I sure do, a new upload is a high point of my week! I am currently watching a Let’s Player called Mapocolops play Hollow Knight. Frequently I’ve seen mentions in the comments of his videos of various people’s favourite Let’s Plays. Yours is frequently mentioned as the number one Hollow Knight playthrough by many. This is true in other fora as well. Keep doing what you do, because you do it really well! Glad to hear that we Patreons are a good support for you. 😊

2023-03-11 17:53:12 +0000 UTCI think a lot of the issue with let's plays of today's major studio games (especially Ragnarok) is that they have sanded away any of the places someone could get stuck. One of the main reasons I watch those videos is to see someone struggle for a bit before they triumph. When the game holds the player's hand and firmly guides them through, it gives a pleasant if a bit dull experience for the player, but completely strips the tension and catharsis from the viewer. In a let's play, the player is the protagonist, and an easy flawless victory doesn't make for a good story. That's probably why we love your messy exploration.

I've been pretty busy lately but can't wait to catch up on subnautica (I kind of gave up on that game myself, too scary). Sometimes it's best to avoid them. It's your personality that makes the videos, so I'm up for you trying any game you feel like to see how it goes. Definitely continue Star Wars, and I cannot wait for the next Subnautica vids.

This might sound silly but I felt a bit selfish that my reaction to that was just to sign up to the patreon, because I began to worry that maybe a bunch of people signing up would be even more pressure on the situation, even though I've got no expectations because it sounds tough and I see it happen so often. But, it sounds like bunch of people and other creators have been able to give great advice :) Regarding almost any public comment section I wander into... I swear there's just always at least one ignorant or hateful person in them. Sometimes I stroll through a big comment section just to find the very few that I don't like, and really let it get to me... and it's not even about me at all! I guess people are good at ignoring all the good/meaningful discussion in that way. So, I'm glad to hear feedback here has been helpful.

2023-03-11 15:07:03 +0000 UTCYour Subnautica run was suggested to me while watching someone else's (I'm obsessed with Subnautica and often watch different playthroughs), and as I binged the first four (what was on YouTube at that time) in an afternoon, I became a Patron specifically to see parts 5-7, as well as the rest of it. I really enjoy the laid back atmosphere of your videos, and am looking forward to checking out the rest of your content. Dafydd Davies above said, "screw the haters," and that's exactly right. Some people like to be negative just to be negative, but those who stick with you will always be positive. In time that positivity will far outpace whatever negativity there is. So at the end of the day, you just do you, because those of us here are here to stay.

It's been a pleasure supporting you. I haven't subscribed to a patreon in so long and I likely won't be about to forever, but please know that if I ever do leave it wouldn't have anything to do with you (likely just more strict on my finances) I would still say I'm more of a casual viewer, despite the fact that you do inspire me. I'm taking a Bachelor in game design and it's lovely watching another game dev have something like this, not to mention it's just really entertaining in general. This whole comment feels like an incoherent mess but point is I think you're incredible, I acknowledge how much effort you've put into staying positive, and I'm so so glad you've been able to find that motivation to keep going, not for our sake, but for yours. 2023-03-11 14:37:43 +0000 UTCRe: Resident Evil 4, if you're interested in it, why not just play the original instead to celebrate the release of the remake? You get the benefit of it being topical while maintaining the ability to attract a new audience that's played the game before and wants to relive it through new eyes. Plus, all the RE4 fans I know seem to be saying that it didn't really warrant a remake to begin with. It may just turn out to be a better game than the new one, despite technological improvements.

I think when people enjoy a video they rarely leave a comment saying that, so the only comments you get are negative ones, I'm also guilty of this because every video of yours I've seen I loved, but never took the time to write a comment.
