2026-01-09 22:55:03 +0000 UTCGD originally prepared upbeat songs, Heartbreaker, Crooked beatbox with Wing, Too Bad with Smoke (dance break challenge with Bada Lee) and Tablo song remix. Then the HK fire happened which killed a lot of people. With the entire city in mourning GD felt that it was not right to perform what he originally planned so he changed his entire setlist the last minute. The show was also on verge of cancellation but opted to proceed but was toned down due to the tragedy. GD sang Drama and Untitled instead. During the show, the timings were so out of sync that GD's team had to scramble to keep up. The daisy flower which GD intended to dedicate to the victims was not highlighted and GD was worried that his message was not conveyed. The sound system was crappy and the broadcast showed a loud backing track which overshadowed his live vocals. This made that haters judged GD's vocal capabilities, when in fact the fan cams showed GD's raw, emotional and beautiful vocals. This is why in this video he opted to show fancams instead of MAMAs clips. After his MAMA performance there were a lot controversies about GD's capabilities. He later proved the haters wrong during the Ubermensch Encore performance in Seoul where he performed what his team originally planned for MAMA. It was epic, you guys should check it out.

2026-01-06 13:33:40 +0000 UTCI was watching the show and honestly many things felt fake only for the sake of not being dragged by the public. Like every host or group that won an award had to make an speech about hongkong... they just needed to send a message at the beggining and at the end of the show, not use fire related things or lyrics and that's it. Why change completely setlists, outfits, etc?

2026-01-04 15:53:34 +0000 UTCMnet was so scared to be cancelled that they ruined the whole show with st*** changes last minute. BABYMONSTER had to change Sheesh for Drip removing fireworks and felt bland compared to what YG originally planned for their 1st award show debut, Treasure had a collab stage with boynextdoor and another boy group that was cancelled. I guess others were affected too.

2026-01-04 15:46:31 +0000 UTCAs far as I understand (without having done an in-depth analysis), because the fire tragedy in Hong Kong was extremely serious, there were rumors at one point that MAMA might be canceled. However, the incident happened so suddenly that a last-minute cancellation would clearly have resulted in enormous financial losses. There was also public debate about whether it was appropriate to hold an entertainment event under such circumstances. The organizers appeared to merely advise performers to avoid fire-related elements in their acts, rather than mandating changes to setlists or performances. GD, however, made the brave and thoughtful decision to completely change his setlist at the very last moment out of respect for the Hong Kong fire tragedy. “Too Bad” is overly upbeat and therefore inappropriate in the context of such a tragedy—especially since it includes a section of "smoke" with Bada. On the other hand, he wanted to express mourning and respect for the victims. He could have chosen to perform only one song, or even not perform at all, but instead he courageously opted to present an entirely new full set. Through his performance, you could genuinely feel his sincerity. As he himself said, “the public is unforgiving.” He truly shouldered a sense of social responsibility—especially considering that he personally made a substantial donation to Hong Kong charitable organizations in response to the tragedy.
