A long overdue playlist

This playlist is made up of what I think is called Retro Wave. Or Synth Wave. Or Synth Retro something or other. I have found a deep love for this style. I hope you will forgive my love for this shit as well as my hopeless and continuing crush on Elizabeth Shue.

If you were a boy in the 80's you have an uncontrollable and persistent crush on Elizabeth Shue.

I'm still in love and I don't know what to do about it except allow myself to enjoy it.

There. I said it.

I am fascinated with this style, because it simulates the 1980s with synthesizers and saxophones and lead guitar and excellent vocals. Ok. 80s drums also.

The quality of these musicians is actually better than the 80's. And it also tangents off into other styles. But I think you will understand what I mean when you listen through.

When I was a kid the 80s felt like concrete fabrication. Then later it just looked like plastic. Absolutely artificial, right? The 90s were pretty cool. So looking back at the 80s with Micheal Jackson and all it just looked fake. Artificial.

Atari. Nintendo. Arcades. Plastic fabric (seriously?). Neon lights. Concrete. False.

What continues to mystify me is how this New Retro Wave style makes me nostalgic as if it were actually composed in that time. But these songs were all made in the last 7ish years almost as a tribute that era.

This opens up an understanding of time that doesn't make linear sense.

You can experience the desire for something unreal that seems real with films like Blade Runner 2049 where there is a continuation of a future world that was imagined in the 1980s. Being nostalgic for a world that never existed.

Its ok to listen to this music and be nostalgic for a version of the 80s that never really happened.

Because time may not be real.

It's very possible that there is only now.

And the 80s or any other time we collectively remember may just be an idea.

Ok. Now that's out of the way, lets focus on some of these amazing artist.

"The Midnight" is classic 80s retro. I enjoy to rest in the nostalgic dependability of The Midnight.

"Kalax" is just a great musician period.

"Gunship" is my favorite. They move away from the era, but jezus fucin christ.

"M83" is better than anything you've ever heard. So wait actually. M83 is my favorite. Sorry Gunship.

"Chvrches" was a great group with the eternally stunning Lauren Mayberry. I hope the get together again.

Because I'm still in love with her....

Also.

I have crushes and I can't do anything about it. It just won't go away. I'm still in love.

There. I said it.

I am forever still in love.

May as well enjoy it.

That's it!

I love you.

The Midnight and Gunship are some of my favorites, especially Gunship. They have a way of capturing 80s scifi/fantasy in their music. Not to mention all the cyberpunk book/movie references. I do love Doom Dance, though Shadow Fury and Woken Furies are some of my favorite. It's hard not to crush on Elizabeth Shue. Look at her.

I have always liked Elizabeth Shue, from the first time I saw her in Adventures in Babysitting at the theatre in 1987 to her later role as Jules in SCI. She is beautiful, witty, and unforgettable!
