I am Australian. Some parts of Australia get very cold indeed. Of course, the north of the country is close to the equator. It is very tropical up there and never cold. Whereas, the south, for example, Melbourne, gets very cold in winter. Not as cold as Europe, but cold enough! Some of the country towns (eg Bendigo & Ballarat) even get snow sometimes.
