You have my sympathies. Been there, too. I'm guessing that gaslighting was the main tactic used by that person. Planting seeds of doubt about others under the guise of confidentiality, claiming that they heard negative things said behind the back of that person by others (usually their allies or friends), and are just being 'honest' and/or 'helpful'. By doing so, they also prevent those people from comparing notes with each other (as it's a bit awkward to confront someone about such things) and finding the inconsistencies until much later. They seem to enjoy the damage they inflict, it's a sort of power thing. It's scary how skilled they are at acting.

2025-03-21 18:55:08 +0000 UTCI experienced the chaos in my work environment created by someone with narcissistic personality disorder. It impacted many, usually perceptive and lovely people and took several years to resolve. The true impact to the business and employees wasn't visible until people started sharing their stories, after this person was paid out. It actually became a very dangerous situation for some that became close to her. I can see so many parallels in the Mhj saga. How is it possible to be aware of this at a very early stage? This person presented as bubbly, friendly and helpful for months.

Corporate weaponization of fandoms/followers. Contrast between the Star Trek fandom and most sports/music fandoms (benign vs. toxic). Is it the core premise that makes the difference?
