I work in the industry so if you sample you should get permission from the copyright holder, they might allow you to use it for free or might ask for a up front one off payment which can be small or large depending on the artist or they can have a contract were every time the track is preformed live you pay as small amount (the money is referred to as Royalities. When it's streamed/digital sales/physical sales an amount of the monies is paid to the owner's of the sampled part. Look up What happened to when an American Artist sampled Sting's 'I'll be watching you. ' As Sting took him to court in the USA and the USA court allotted him far more than Sting was suing the guy for. Also if you sample as an artist you should also have that person/groups name listed sample from.... name of artist/group and the track. Often it will be 'sample with kind permission of.......' at least that's how we word it in the UK. We tend to be rather polite. Hope that helps (oh sometime's the original artist might never ask from payment just a ' with kind permission of......' this has happened a few time with some very generous UK artists. What is also taken into consideration with sampling is the length of the sample' eg how many bars have been sampled. Hope that helps a bit.

Sadly I can't join the livestreams anymore... too early for me. Not awake yet 😅 So I'll ask here because this seems related: If artists not only get inspiration of other artists and/or songs but actually copy parts from another track - is this what is called sampling? Do they pay for it? Do they need to register that somewhere? If so - is there a place general public could check before making accusations of plagiarism? Just by chance I stumbled upon a song by busta rhymes ft chris brown and in general this song reminds me a lot of BTS' rapline-lines. (But I guess that's rap for me, not a huge fan besides BTS and some few other artist and not very knowlageable about it, too. A lot sounds the same to me..) But in that song, there is a part which sounds so much like Yoongis part in cypher pt 2, just different language/words... So, it's not my intention to start sth shady or point fingers... but is this common knowledge? Did they comment on that back then, that cypher triptych is inspired by that other song or sampled or influenced by it? I feel like I'm still baby army even after 3 years, coz there are so many things I don't know... this bothers me for quite some time now. And with all these accusations thrown left and right, I just thought I'd add my thoughts too and ask ppl who might know and on a platform were there shouldn't be any haters... Answers, explainations and enlightenments are much appreciated and welcomed! Thanks!
