Former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin has submitted evidence from a HYBE whistleblower to support her claim that the group ILLIT copied NewJeans' concept.
On the morning of the 11th, the Seoul Central District Court heard Min’s lawsuit against HYBE regarding voting rights. During the hearing, Min’s team provided new evidence, including text messages and recordings from a HYBE employee. The employee, who worked at BELIFT Lab, claimed that the creative director of ILLIT had requested to see NewJeans' plans during ILLIT's early planning stages, and the two projects ended up being nearly identical.
The employee, who had provided these plans, expressed shock that ILLIT ended up copying NewJeans. The whistleblower also expressed frustration at BELIFT Lab’s denial of the plagiarism allegations, stating that the same materials were submitted to the court, and they were clearly identical.
Min's team argued that despite clear evidence, HYBE and BELIFT Lab continued to deny the claims. Min had internally raised concerns about the alleged copying of NewJeans by ILLIT back in April, but HYBE dismissed the issue with what Min’s team called an “illegal audit.”
They also accused HYBE of further mistreatment, including reverse viral marketing against NewJeans, covering up workplace bullying, and terminating the shareholder agreement in violation of a prior court decision. Min has filed an injunction asking HYBE to vote in favor of her reinstatement as CEO at an upcoming board meeting.
Min was removed as CEO on August 27, and Kim Joo-young was appointed in her place. NewJeans members publicly called for Min’s return on September 11, but the request was denied. Min has now filed another lawsuit, seeking her reinstatement as CEO and challenging HYBE’s voting actions.
