Mavy's World

Misamis Occidental is a province located in the region of Northern Mindanao in the Philippines. The primary source of livelihood in the community is fishing, followed by farming. In the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, it ranked third in terms of population size as the province is home to 17.7% of the 2.7 million people living in the region. The World Vision development project is located in Ozamis City and in the municipalities of Panaon, Clarin and Sinacaban where only 75% of the boys in the communities World Vision is working in are functionally literate. Moreover, school readiness rate is less than 60%.

I am extremely happy with this and I want to thank all of you for making this possible. Nothing makes me feel better than being able to make a difference, no matter how small. I also think this is just the beginning for us. We will be able to help more.

As I've explained, I have the money set aside to be able to support Mavy until he graduates from HS. After which, I will reach out and see if we can extend help in terms of employment and, if possible, partial scholarship in college, but definitely employment assistance (if we can).

Whenever I reach a certain income threshold, I will get one more child to sponsor. I will always make sure that the funds are enough to support the kid until HS. World Vision is a global non-profit but if you have other non-profit to suggest, I am open. I only ask that we all do a background check on the group and make sure the support they provide is also grassroots so as not to waste the assistance we provide.
