Art Talk: Making of a picture #1
Added 2020-05-23 07:40:29 +0000 UTCWhile I prepare some updates on new picture sets and so on, how about a making of a picture that I'll create step by step with you?
The first thing I do, once I decided the character to draw, is to gather references. LOT of them. If they have those production design references, showing the character from front/back, I save them, along with close ups of the face and details from the outfit and so on. The point is, before you get to draw the picture, you want to know the character very well, being sure to see how some tricky parts of the outfit are done. This provides a great starting point for when you have to get the drawing table, so don't underestimate this part, as knowing the character also can influence the pose to use.
After this pre-production part is done, let's get to work, by sketching the pose in a rough sketch (as seen in the attached file). I won't reveal the character yet, let's wait for the next Art Talk post;) In this step, what matters is to get the overall proportions and the pose right, without too many details. It will be a good, useful base for when you'll refine the sketch into a clean lineart, which we'll see on next step :)
