April Recap & Behind-the-scenes

 Howdy, folks! I’m back with another recap of the past month along with some sneak peeks into what’s going on at Doodle HQ.

But first, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to the newest member of our group: Robbie Pinnell!

Also, a special thank you to Jessica F Holt, who as of this month has been a patron for a year!

April Recap

A lot of April was spent doing the same ol’ routine of comicking. I really appreciated having a month of rest after two big conventions in March. Outside of that, here’s a recap of some notable happenings from this past month:

The company I typically use to create my vinyl stickers recently had a sale with huge discounts on their prices. Long story short, I purchased coupon codes to make a bunch of stickers. A BUNCH. I used some down time to sketch some old sticker ideas for funsies:

Which ones are your favorites? 

For the first time ever, I can start planning and designing sticker packs. So if you think of anything you’d like to see me make into a sticker or group of stickers, let me know!

I also began work on Spring/Summer avatars for gold patrons. A noticeable theme: Official summer garb AKA straw hats and hawaiian print clothing. Check out some of the avatars below:

This month’s livedraw was co-hosted by special guest, Olivia, of Imogen Quest comics! There were a lot of great drawing requests. I’ve included some of my favorites below:

On an admin side note, I took time this month to really go through, sort, and clean my office. I created a ‘shipping station’ to put together shop orders, counted and properly sorted inventory, and finally unpacked the last of my office supplies. 

Finally, I planned, wrote, and began creating Astro Pup’s finale comic, which also happens to be his origin story! It’s my first time attempting to tell any kind of story with my comics, so I’ve been nervously writing and rewriting it to make sure it hits all the right notes. It’s still a work in progress, and I’m taking my time to finish it, because I want to make sure I get it right. Here are a couple of panels from the story so far:

Coming Up

I’m currently gearing up for my next convention, which will be Comicpalooza in Houston, TX. I’ll be joined by fellow cartoonist and World Walker, Jane, who draws The Pigeon Gazette and Genji Cat. We have yet to receive our table number, but I’ll update you as soon as I get the deets.

The gold patron livedraw for May will be next Thursday! More info will be sent out soon:

Lastly, I haven’t been feeling well lately, so I’m temporarily slowing down my output of comics and other content. Don’t worry! I’m fine, and this won’t affect patron perks at all. Bronze patrons will still receive comics early, silver patrons will still receive an extra comic, and gold patrons will still receive a monthly livedraw. The goal is to take it easy now to avoid a prolonged hiatus in the future. I’m hoping to be back in tip-top shape by the end of May. As always, you’ll be able to read two new comics each week on my Webtoon series, even if updates elsewhere are sporadic until then. 

Again, I’d like to thank you all for your support. Having a source of financial stability goes a long way toward helping artists such as myself fund and grow our businesses and continue doing what we love to do: create!
