Behind-the-scenes! August 2016

HEY PATRONS!

So much has happened in the last month and I’m excited to chat about it with you, so let’s get to it.

First things first: WE HIT THE FIRST MILESTONE! Thank you, thank you, thank you! At this funding level, I can now host a livestream EVERY WEEK. I’m super excited about it, because I love streaming and getting to chat with people. If you haven’t shown up to one yet, feel free to drop in if you can! I’ve been told I have good taste in music.

I was originally going to schedule them for Saturdays, but quickly realized I had way too many schedule conflicts. To keep things as consistent as possible, I chose to stream Thursday nights at 8pm cst.

Recap of Boston Comic Con:

As I may have mentioned, this was my first convention ever. Let me tell you, it was such a great experience. Webtoon was kind enough to sponsor our tables and were a huge help throughout the con. With all of the excitement of travel and meeting tons of new people, it was hard to remember to eat, so big shout out to them and all my webcomic buddies who fed me. Real MVPs! I think the most incredible part of the trip was meeting fellow artists and confirming that we are all indeed BFFs. The rumors are true. We all got matching tattoos to prove it to the world. (Okay, maybe not, but hopefully next year.)

I also got to meet readers! A few of you stopped by to say hello, and it was great getting to meet you in person. It was a very surreal experience having someone standing in front of me and saying they’ve read my stuff. How crazy! Real life humans have seen my dumb internet comics. Truly a humbling experience.

I was also on a panel about webcomics! People in the audience had a lot of great questions and I kept accidentally interrupting fellow panelists to answer. My B.

A final and wonderful side effect of the con was tons of inspiration. Being surrounded by so much activity and so many incredibly talented people helped clear away the creativity cobwebs clinging to my brain for the past few months. On the flight home I was thinking up fun project and merch ideas faster than I could write them down. Imagine the pen scene in Liar, Liar. That was me, scribbling like a mad woman. I still haven’t had a chance to go back and look through them all, but the point is: Megan’s got her groove back!

In conclusion, everyone please sign my petition to make Boston Comic Con a year-long event. Thank you.

SUPER BIG ANNOUNCEMENT:

If you’ve tuned into a livestream in the past two months, you may have noticed me working on a ton of illustrations. I can finally announce as of today that I just wrapped up the art for a card game! I worked with the awesome Jason Anarchy of Drinking Quest to create a game called Pretending to Adult. The kickstarter will launch sometime in October, so be on the lookout for it! This was the biggest project I’ve worked on so far, and I’m so happy to see it completed and brought to life. SO EXCITED, YOU GUYS! Which leads me to my next segment...

I’ll be at New York Comic Con!

I’ll be joining Jason in the Exhibitors hall at New York Comic Con to sell merch and promote the game’s kickstarter. In the next few weeks I’ll be busy prepping by making a couple of new print designs along with some button designs (I finally get to use my awesome button maker. YES) The convention is four days long from October 6-9. Hope to see some of you there!

On the horizon:

The website is nearly finished! I have to create a few more visual elements before my friend Enzo, the awesome mega-talented dude building the site, can proceed.

I’m going on vacation! The week after getting back from NYCC, I’ll be going on vacation for a couple of weeks.

Writing blogs and things! I’ll be writing about tips and tricks new artists and cartoonists can use to promote their works online. This’ll be fun, because it combines my two loves: comics and social media.

Beefing out Patreon! Very soon I’ll be adding more exclusive perks to Patreon. If you have ideas for things you’d like to see from me, please feel free to drop me a line. I want to keep things fresh and fun for everyone.

Thank you!

That’s all from me for now! Thanks again for the support. I’ll see you in October with another update.
