Love this movie, but why did everyone have an issue with Terry and Gavin? What did they do that warranted divorce? The purpose of a marriage is to unify as one by honoring God and each other. This involves communicating with your spouse effectively and working it out through spiritual counsel, therapy, prayer, etc., not divorcing at the first sight of adversity (of course, there are exceptions). Terry's frustrations were valid; you can't make decisions in a marriage as if you're single. Diane made a semi-permanent decision without talking to him. However, he should have discussed the issue with Diane before testing their daughter. Honestly, after you've communicated the same thing repeatedly to someone, and you're constantly being ignored, it becomes a problem, and that's where Terry's frustration came from. Furthermore, Gavin should have expressed his feelings to Pat, but emotions were high at that time, and it was honestly a natural reaction. He also needed to realize that she was hurting too, maybe even more than him. Marriage is a compromise (both parties putting in the effort), and this new-age mantra of "I don't care about my spouse, I do what I want" is going to lead to a path of unnecessary brokenness. Just saying.
