Added 2024-01-15 21:20:06 +0000 UTCThe northern Iraqi city of Erbil, which is the capital of Kurdistan Region of Iraq, was hit by up to five ballistic missiles with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) taking direct credit for the attack.
The international airport and the U.S. consulate were the targets with both hit. CENTCOM has reported no casualties at the U.S. Consulate.
This comes hours after the United States owned and Panamanian flagged Gibraltar Eagle, owned by Eagle Bulk Shipping, was hit by a Houthi antiship missile causing minor damage. The management of Eagle Bulk Shipping said the vessel, carrying steel products, suffered damage to a cargo hold, was stable, and moving away from the area under its own power.
Both incidents represent a significant escalation by the IRGC and the Houthi militants.
