Racism on Games

So, I’ve wanted to talk to you all about this for a LONG time. I never really felt right, until we had the disaster that happened with George Floyd that sparked riots around USA. When I saw that I thought about making the post, but then I had other issues happening, life goes on and all that…

And then, here on my city, João Alberto Silveira Freitas was beaten and suffocated to death by two market guards.

So… it’s going to be now.

“Okay… but what that has to do with the game?”

Look folks, I think that in a way I ended up making a pretty racist game.

“You did? How so?”

Listen, I don’t want to write about racism. At least, not interspecies(?) racism (black and white stuff).  There are already enough different races and I will present you all sorts of prejudice, trust me. But here is the problem: For discrimination based on the color of the skin to not be a thing, we have to have environments where miscegenation was common in the past and children were raised in such place without issue.

“What do you mean?”

By logic, if there is not black Rinets(like… there isn’t), and Diana, who never ever came into contact with people like that, come to face with a black guy, she would have said something like “Why the hell are you brown?” or “What the hell are you?”. Do you see my point?

At first I thought that maybe I could make another society, which has more black people to the south, they have their own culture, costumes and yada yada… but then I thought that it would be disrespectful.

“Why is that?”

Because then It would sound like I had justification all along for all/most the people being white. I don’t want to do that dumb shit! The truth is that I didn’t notice it! Now I did and I am going to fix it! I am not going to fix it if I do an “AAAAActually… the black people where in another place… hehehe… I planned it all along…”

I want the game to be about all humans with different colors together! So this type of racism is not a thing!

“So what are you going to do?”

Well, I will change some non important characters…

“You will change the generic ones? WOAH, this guy is such a progressive!”

Calm down. I will not do ONLY that. It’s because I personally don’t like to change the color of character that I already created.

From now on, I will AIM to balance the skin color using that Human Skin Tones Set… it will be something like… “for every 18, I want each one of those colors.”

Okay… this is all I wanted to say. Also I wanted to apology for those who were not accurately represented.
