I can't believe nobody chose Tainted Love by Marilyn Manson
2023-01-27 22:51:19 +0000 UTCJeff Buckley's cover of "Hallelujah" is the knockout punch. That cover should have won, 100%. That thing is a fucking masterpiece. And not "hipster" in the least. I mean, it came out in 1994 and plenty of his other stuff rocked hard. He filled a lot of niches in his time, that's how talented he was. Oh, and fuck what Newsweek says, that's NEWSWEEK. They don't know fuck all. Walt really is failing on the argument by being a total prude. That performance moves people to tears. (I also loved this performance before Buckley died. Walt's pre-written notes were lame, the very fact that he had to write up so much of an argument proves that the song was strong). Hurt is a knockout punch as well, but Reznor has said different things in different interviews about it, he doesn't feel like it is Johnny's really, but he does acknowledge the power of it. That said, Ming should win because Nothing Compares 2 U is a crazy powerful cover too. There was barely a release of it beforehand, The Family release of it wasn't even that big of a deal, Sinead nailed it. And I already knew her before this song came out, from her previous album, from the single "Mandinka".
