Like this: The addict white girl speaking at the start of the episode is the white girl that pulled up in Hamsterdam - clearly from outside the neighborhood- to buy an 8th. The dude tried to make friendly convo & she said just give me the coke. Then you saw her again the next season at the corner store, the one I believe Omar robbed and it was clear she was a prostitute living in the area. Now she’s getting sober going to meetings admitting she was a whore & all the horrible things she had to do to support her addiction.

The writers did a great job showing how journalists shape society, while society shapes the paper in return. The smoke break convo was a perfect reminder of how words evolve—like terms once deemed okay (buxom blonde, negro, oriental) are now unacceptable.
