Fam my aunt was the exact same way with her oldest daughter of 4 kids, It was like she was jealous of her daughter doing good, going to school\cheerleader and working and would refused to taker her to work which it took 3 bus routes to get to. She moved with my mom and take turn dropping her to work til she bought a whip and started college in San Antonio. Now she graduated got a house and her mom had to move in with her because of health wich is only reason she change her hateful a** ways. My aunt acts just like Weebay old lady smh, my fault for the rant but my his moms triggered me 😂

Namond looked up to his pops, sadly. Weebay said if u gon do it u gotta go all in. I truly believe if namond stopped fronting and stopped tryna make pops “proud”. Just told weebay how he truly felt. Weebay would’ve squashed all that. Cuz he knows if u go out there not all in. U get killed.

It reminds me of the study that shows must people overestimate the age of Black children and are harder on them. I constantly point out that Namond deserves empathy because he’s actually a good hearted kid that can’t be good hearted because he’s expected to be a gangster. So he’s constantly trying to live up to what he’s not. And most important SHOULDN’T WANT TO BE. The writing on this show is excellent. It should make you makes think how twisted are we to want Namond to be like his Daddy? We shouldn’t want that.

2025-03-15 06:10:57 +0000 UTCThe rule in the gym no fighting outside of the gym. Picking on Dukie was wrong but no excuse for Michael to start assaulting Namond. That wasn’t self defense. Mike was wrong. Cutty’s gym is to stop the cycle of violence & create disciplined young men who think before they swing. So he’s reacted hard because it’s a violation to the code of the gym. Namond was dead wrong, Mike was dead wrong and the way to settle things was not that. The problem is we - as the people/viewers - love the criminals and glamorize the gangster mentality . We actually condone & enjoy the thuggery. But it’s why all the kids is fucked up in the first place.

That’s why Cutty was pissed. Self defense is allowed not fighting over words. Mike is abused & turned to violence once he saw it worked to end his situation. Namond stays trying to talk big & bad cause he’s really non violent in a world that doesn’t respect non violence, pressured to be a terrible person when he’s actually not. He’s trying save face. All these kids is screwed.

People(kids and adults that have bad hygiene for whatever reason-medical or bad living conditions, they are shunned and treated like shiet in society. I agree Cutty shouldve been more understanding and found out whats actually going on, but he a good dude.

The creator of the show David Simon said when they would be done filming one season they would never know if they were coming back to do another season because the ratings weren’t to HBOs liking. I think season 2 with the Greeks and docks was highest viewership they had because the cast was predominantly white. The wire more so got the love they deserved from the masses after it was over. They were never even nominated for any awards ever. But it’s critically acclaimed by most as a top 3 best show ever now.

Also, with the season almost over do y'all miss Stringer and Avon still? And y'all are right about the show when it was on the air. HBO was pretty expensive back in the day so it wasn't as accessible as how streaming services are today. Not only that but with social media now, it's easy for people to find out the new trending shows like Power, Snowfall, The Chi (when it was good) whereas back then shows needed networks to promote it which HBO never did with the Wire because the Sopranos was the top dog of the network during that era while the wire got overlooked

It’s heartbreaking to see how every single kid is going through hell. The only one groomed for the streets doesn’t want it. Michael has no choice but to make a deal with the devil because he doesn’t want to live with his rapist. Randy snitched because he didn’t want to chance losing his foster mother and look where he’s at now. And poor Dukes is the saddest of the bunch. He never had a chance.
