Malcolm X (1992)

Black History Month Drop

First time watching MALCOLM X , finally seeing and learning what we've been hearing our whole life

Malcolm X (1992)

Comments

This was such a good watch!! With it still being black history month I really want y’all to watch the movie 42 with Chadwick Boseman

TaNay Unique

I mean you can't really blame Malcolm for feeling the way he felt about white people considering he was born about a hundred years ago and experienced nothing but the worst part of white people from the moment they killed his father when he was a kid to everything he went through. The world was a very different place back then black people really had no rights at all from going in restaurants to voting to pretty much anything that's all he knew and experiencing at that time.

Coolio

He's Rog from what's happening lol

Coolio

that dude is from everbody hate chris

marcus jones

This was a great movie . They didn’t want to learn about hi m in school. They white adults always said negative things about him.

Lorenzo Robinson

Thanks for reacting to my classic Biopic👏👏👏

Kleenn6160

Thank you. Same to you. I’m gonna take her and my oldest son to Vegas to celebrate

B.Laster

Ayeeee!!! My birthday twinnn👏🏽 sending many blessings ya way🙏🏽 may the lord guide her & protect her as she grows into a beautiful woman 💫

Jae Amanda

Rosewood is a horror movie don't have them react to that. That type of movie will traumatize you and make you mad.

Coolio

To answer y’all question about if the men who killed Malcolm ever got arrested for it: the man who was shot in the leg by one of Malcolm’s body guards and taken outside and beaten by his supporters (which real life footage of that exist) and rescued by the NYPD, his name is Talmadge Hayer. He was in fact arrested and charged in Malcolm’s murder. He confessed to it in two on camera prison interviews you can find online, but his other four co-conspirators managed to escape and the police ended up arresting two other men, who were in fact innocent and who Hayer even said wasn’t part of his group and they were wrongly convicted and served a number of years in jail. But currently Malcom X’s family is filing a massive lawsuit against the NYPD, the FBI and CIA, I believe because of the possibility that they were all involved in the assassination because one of Malcolm’s supporters who were part of the groups that tried to beat down Hayer outside the ballroom claims he overheard one of the NYPD officers asking “is he with us?” In reference to Hayer, whom they were trying to rescue from the mob. Which begs the question, was Hayer and his co-conspirators real Black Muslims from the NOI or were they working with NYPD Intelligence??? 🤔

Rodman

“No Malcolm X in my history text, why is is that? 'Cause he tried to educate and liberate all blacks! Why is Martin Luther King in my book each week? He told blacks, if they get smacked, turn the other cheek. I don't get it, so many questions went through my mind I get sweated, they act as if asking question's a crime.” -2Pac/Words of Wisdom

Rodman

Judas and the Black Messiah! Very fire true movie!

Great reaction y’all! I love that you want to know more about “Nelson Mandela”. You two should react to “The Help 2011”. For BHM!

dawnisunique

Can yall react to "Panther"(1995) & "Rosewood"as part of Black History Month yall Other suggestions; -Mississipi Burning(Gene Hackman,Willem Dafoe) -A Time To Kill(Sandra Bullock,Samuel L Jackson,Matthew McConaughey) -One Night In Miami -Blackkklansman -Dolemite Is My Name(Eddie Murphy) -The Hate You Give -Do The Right Thing -Da 5 Bloods -Rosa Parks -Glory(Denzel,Morgan Freeman) -The Help -Hidden Figures -Selma -42 -Shaft -Roads To Memphis -Judas & The Black Messiah -Mandela-Long Walk To Freedom -Sinners(Michael B Jordan) -Invictus(Morgan Freeman) -12 Years A Slave(Chiwetel Ejiofor) The Color Purple would be another but yall did that recently anyways. There is "1992" but that seems to basically be a remake or sequel of "Waist Deep" you could say.

Kausion

Great dialogue. And much respect for watching this. And big shout out to Amanda for having the same bday as my daughter, Feb 17th. My daughter turning 21

B.Laster

Jae said he wants to learn more about Nelson..he should do the knowledge on Winnie too. She was the true soldier while Nelson was locked away.

Nikki

Word! They clawed & scrapped for every little inch.

Nikki

I was born & raised NY, NY can be really deceptive. There have been tons of incidents in NY that are no different than the lynching in Deep South. Eleanor Bumpers, Yusef Hawkins, Amado Diablo, Sean Bell, Anthony Diaz the list goes on and on. You guys are young so how would you know? You weren’t there to see when the cops violently protested Black Mayor David Dinkins by carrying nooses & washboards. You wouldn’t remember the riots in Crown Heights when a child was run over by a white driver and was left in the street to die. There’s a lot.

Nikki

Those men were exonerated. It’s believed by many that the assassination was coordinated by the US government.

Nikki

The scene where Malcolm and Betty's heartfelt phone conversation is being listened to by the CIA , you hear one of the agents chuckle and say " wow compared to King, this guy is a monk " . During this period of time, the government had EVERY black civil rights leader/movement under surveillance and had infiltrated most of them . King despite his public mission and persona had a secret life that the government was aware of . Nothing too wild but MLK used to be piping different broads and having orgies in between doing the work for the cause . So the joke that the agents was making was basically saying eavesdropping on Malcolm is boring compared to the x-rated info that they got when those agents was on that King wiretap . Malcolm was all about his wife and kids . Not exactly the most lit content .

Ric Rude

Great Reaction, y’all! A lot more reactors should do this movie. PS. The guy Amanda kept saying looked familiar played Mr. Omar in Everybody Hates Chris.

Brad B

I advocate for Spike Lee's movies because Spike Lee IS Black history. John Singleton IS Black history. Lee, Singleton, and the Hughes Brothers (Menace II Society) were the only Black directors on the big screen in that era and since. It hits different when you get to tell your own story. The fact these directors saw any level of success is a history lesson. They saw success in spite of the barriers. The Black directors often didn't get paid properly, either. You'd pay to see Malcolm X and they'd give you a ticket for something else which means X did not get credit for the sale. We can go on for days about the number of Black actors whose first movies were with these directors. These actors thrived because they were given access. Thanks to the Black directors for breaking down barriers and paving the way!

Mr. B

Y’all should check out “one night in Miami”. It’s based on a play that was created about a meeting between Sam Cooke, Muhammad Ali, and Malcolm. It’s fiction because nobody actually knows what they talked about but I believe its still a powerful movie.

Kangdarius

For old folks like me, we know him as Roger from What's Happening. lol.

Mr. B

From the 90s: Mississippi masala ,crimson tide, preachers wife, he got game and Bone collector

Laquintin Belser

In case you didn't know, Spike Lee had to get funding from celebrities and athletes, mostly black. Because Hollywood Studios would not fund this movie. Michael Jackson,Magic Johnson, Janet Jackson, Micheal Jordan are just a few names. Spike put their names in the end credits.

Anthony Turner

Government agents did try to kill Malcolm while he was in mecca. He was poisoned but fortunately he had gotten timely medical treatment and had his stomach pumped so he survived

Facts

Sean Elliot

A long walk for freedom Idris Elba plays Nelson Mandela it it

Laron Felts

I’m at lunch watching this right now and I don’t wanna clock back in 😭 this movie always hooks me by the time he goes to jail. This man’s life was truly fascinating. The fact that they didn’t even delve into his relationship with “Sophia” like that as well. Shit, that was a movie in itself.

Kangdarius

I would like to see it. 😂

TheKitt’sPajamas

Does my heart good that you guys are watching this. I don't know why ppl would get mad for you not knowing things about it. Honestly when I was in school, they only talked about Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman. We had to learn about Malcolm X in other ways. This movie was a BIG help. I remember seeing this as a teenager in a PACKED theater. Man, being a teenager then, I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's definitely Spikes greatest movie. But this , imo is just ONE of Denzel greatest performances. He's had plenty. Denzel Washington is DAT DUDE.

Anthony Turner

Note on the guy that looks familiar: y’all may know him as Mr. Omar from Everybody Hates Chris

GG

Good eye! You noticed The Bunk!! Haha yeah he was hella young in this

daron85

Hell yeah

Lique Rhone

Yea hopefully we get Do the right thing soon Written, directed and starring Spike Lee. Also has Martin And Samuel L Jackson just to name a few.

Gary Best

Yall should watch The Great Debaters with Denzel Washington. It's a great movie and its Black History Month 🙂

Lola

I'd start from the beginning: She's Gotta Have It, School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, Crooklyn. School Daze has music with a message but Do the Right Thing punches you in the face with the music. lol! Think of Spike Lee as a Black Activist with a message and you'll better understand his movies.

Mr. B

Fruit of Islam. Try it. They are so good

Taurean Reign

One of the men did get away and brags about it in his neighborhood even up to some years ago. In fact, you can see him on the footage of the one man being carried out. You can see the guy who was talking about it going the opposite direction in the crowd not noticing him

mondawmin mall

Angela was killing it during this time. She did the Jacksons the same year

mondawmin mall

One of the dudes who killed Malcolm X is free to this day and brags about it in his neighborhood.

mondawmin mall

Appreciate you!! 🙏🏽

Jae Amanda

I can see how the old him came off that way but he changed and even apologized for it. He stood for BLACK LIVES MATTER! And we are ALL HUMAN so we shouldn’t be treated differently!

Jae Amanda

No, he won for Training Day as the lead and Glory as a supporting actor! Many people say that this was his best performance though, and I believe so too.

Jackie

yes he was sentenced to 18 months in juvie. he was 12 at the time

tedd

Appreciate you & that is wild 🤦🏽‍♀️

Jae Amanda

He did his thing for sure!

Jae Amanda

Yea, I think they said he did 4 years for manslaughter and arson

Ebon'e Nicole

Yea we never had that before & what’s FOI?

Jae Amanda

Yup, it was great to see where he started and his change for the better! Both were powerful men, would have been so dope to see them together more. I never even heard of the side of him before Mecca so seeing it caught me by surprise, but LOVED to his change💯

Jae Amanda

Lmao yeaaa Jae peeped him

Jae Amanda

He won for training day

Jaleel

We did not!! 🤯 went right over our heads

Jae Amanda

Nope we haven’t seen that

Jae Amanda

Sheesh I think MLK died at the same age. Agreed! He definitely turned his life around and stood for what’s right. Glad those men got caught and sentenced. Sad to hear she died from a fire. He did time for her death?

Jae Amanda

Invictus is a good movie about Nelson Mandela to watch

Jaleel

We are getting back to all comments again! Glad they were caught and sentenced. But sheesh. That’s crazy about the FBI & NYPD but then again I am not surprised🤦🏽‍♀️

Jae Amanda

✍🏽

Jae Amanda

I thought he won one for this film 🤯

Jae Amanda

Glad they were caught & sentenced

Jae Amanda

I’ve heard they were close, surprised they ain’t show them together in the film. But that would be interesting to see

Jae Amanda

What’s some Denzel films you’d recommend?

Jae Amanda

Appreciate you! Hope you enjoyed watching with us!! When it comes to Denzel’s performance tho he really did his thing and this is a powerful movie he’s playing a powerful person so that makes it even better

Jae Amanda

A film that changed my life. Learning more about this man then diving deeper with his autobiography. Such a great man cut down by his own ppl for white men. Something that happens a lot in history, sadly.

Kangdarius

Jae Amanda

Hope you enjoyed 💫

Jae Amanda

Yall did a really good job .

Ric Rude

Hatred associated with Malcolm dont even relate. He was about justice ultimately.

InsurgeTech

The Nation also was in cooperation with the CIA/FBI as well. CIA is ALWAYS involved in stopping revolutionaries, but for black people to want to link up with them is ALWAYS a problem till this day which is disgusting. Great reaction!

InsurgeTech

Denzel is a gift from God. This is my favorite movie of his

Nicole

If yall never had a bean pie before I’d highly suggest it and get it from one of the FOI

Taurean Reign

So happy yall peeped Bunk lol He was really young....He was showed a few times before yall peeped. He was the first one to say "get ya hands outta my pocket" lol

InsurgeTech

Yeah Malcolm X hated most of the Civil Rights Leader up until the last year of his death. That’s when he apologized to them after he came back from Mecca and realize that what he was taught about Islam was wrong. He saw that Islam brought together people from every race even white. That’s when he realized how wrong he was and he started to work with other black leaders that last year including Martin Luther King Jr. They only met one time at a Civil Rights Acts meeting in DC where there is famous footage and pictures of them shaking hands. I truly believe that if Malcolm X was never killed a lot of even better things would have came out well for the majority of black people. People like to focus on his time before he went to Mecca where he would speak so ill of people that were not black but the true Malcolm was the one after Mecca. That’s the one people should talk about.

Jihad Lee

Dont know if you guys know but shorty that's Spike Lee

Gary Best

If yall haven’t already yall should watch “Ali” too

Jaleel

There pretty isn’t a style of American music or dance Black folks didn’t create except for Ballet & folk.

Nikki

Malcolm was only 39 when he was killed. So young man. He has always been my favorite Civil Rights Activist ever since I was a kid. So much respect for how he turned his life around towards an amazing purpose! Three men were convicted in his murder case. One verbally confessed and served 23 years in prison and 22 years in a work release. The other 2 were exonerated in 2021. Betty died in 1997 due to injuries caused by a house fire her grandson who was 18 at the time and he went to jail.

Ebon'e Nicole

I really hope y’all don’t miss this comment. I’m so glad you watched this movie! The men arrested and convicted for killing Malcolm X were exonerated after decades in prison. The NY district attorney admitted that the FBI & NYPD withheld crucial evidence. It’s believed by Malcolm X’s family & many historians that the US government allowed, conspired with or outright planned Malcolm X’s assassination.

Nikki

“Ruby Bridges” a good movie for black history month

Fiop

This fantastic movie should’ve won last month but better late than never! Incredible performance that should’ve warranted an Oscar for the legendary Denzel.

Jackie

The men who killed Malcolm served time in prison I believe a few of them passed

Rashad Walker

You guys should look into Mohammad Ali’s story now. Him and Malcolm were extremely close and Malcolm was like an older brother to him. Netflix has a special called “Blood Brothers”

Lovey

The studio didn’t wanna pay for the completion of the movie. Spike Lee reached out to black Celebs and they put money up. Michael Jordan,Oprah, bill cosby and more

Sean Elliot

Thank you and kudos to yall for being among the few reaction channels that observe/acknowledge Black History month. It seems like the others are afraid to show their support. I will watch every single video y’all post this month both on YT AND Patreon 💜💪🏾 I hope y’all get to watching the Help and Hidden Figures

Quenna Monroe

You guys should watch Judas and the black messiah. Fred Hampton was one of the black panthers and they assassinated him at 21!!

Justin

Hey Y'all! Jae, you said you didn't expect a musical scene like that in this movie, but it's sooooo Spike Lee. Check out some of his earlier movies to get a feel for who Spike is as a director.

Mr. B

14:52 Yes the scene in the movie is choreographed but it is accurate. That really is a style of dance black ppl created during that time called the Lindyhop. It’s not just something they made up for this movie. You can find some great clips of black ppl doing it on youtube. Here are two of my fav clips… https://youtu.be/qzc7vY9VTnk?si=K-PqV9ugHkTqIvEs https://youtu.be/egopcBsOPIU?si=bYkvzzhCqo67kQvf

TheKitt’sPajamas

He didn't wanna give them the satisfaction of him giving them his number

Rashad Walker

Thehe united states vs billie holliday, Judas and the black messiah are some good black history month movies

Meme Chanel

celestial celestial

Let’s go… I’m here for it

V3ga Bluesummers

If you remember in american gangster frank lucas (denzel washington) walk up and told the guy who was playing joe louis he paid his taxes forhim

Munna

I agree with that

Oday145

betty shabazz would end up getting murdered by her grandson. he set the apartment on fire. he was sentenced to 18 months in juvie. he was later murdered in mexico

tedd

Finally!!!!!! I’m so excited. You would’ve thought that I never seen this movie or read his autobiography like forty times. 😂

Lovey

Y'all don't miss I'm glad y'all got to this one 💯...I think it's subjective to say it's Denzel best movie lol he got so much heat in the 90s dawg 😂

Laquintin Belser

Love this movie ...spike and Denzel did their thing for different reasons

Rashad Walker

🔥🔥🔥

Candice

Malcolm DID have the number. He said 821 because of the time when they were in the living room. It's great to discuss the performance of Denzel Washington in his portrayal of Malcolm X, as well as Spike Lee's directing in the classic film. It's understandable that you may not be familiar with this film, given your age. Happy Black History Month.

Rondo

Denzel Washington played an excellent job acting as Malcolm X

Jarick Richardson

Yaaaaaaayyyyyy ! Been waiting agesss for y’all youngins to react to this MASTERPIECE 😁😁😁😁
