The Color Purple (1985)

This was a powerful movie! And probably one of the wildest movie we've seen.

Come watch THE COLOR PURPLE with us...

The Color Purple (1985)

Comments

damn gen zs lol when she held out her hand against albert when he was about to hit her.. That was supposed to be a powerful and pivotal moment.. “The Claw” 😭😭😭😭

Jaybeast5x

jae - she nice she winning me over ☺️ another kiss.. wait where is this going 🤨

Jaybeast5x

You’re right..but either way her own father was fucking her and it’s still a common thing in a lot of black families it just doesn’t get talked about enough

Tyionna Williams

You right I agree being preyed by a grown man living in the house with them on top of that made it even worse!

Pdawg662

Fast forward to 2:19:32 and listen Reeeeeeal good family. She said it turns out her kids are NOT her brothers and and sisters! What that mean fam!?

Pdawg662

LMAO yea cause that caught us all the way OFF GUARD🤣

Jae Amanda

Heyyy Ke’ara! Just been a lil busy behind the scenes but once we get settled we are going back to replying to everyone every video

Jae Amanda

But I was cracking up when she said “beat her” and yall both had the same reaction 😂😂

Ke’Ara Kashay

Y’all don’t reply to me no more 😭😭😭😭😞

Ke’Ara Kashay

I’m talking about in the very beginning where ceily got pregnant TWICE by her own father and you mentioning that didn’t make anything better because of the fact that they were in their young teens while living and being preyed upon by a grown man. Please.

Tyionna Williams

Yeah but those were not his daughters ❤️

Pdawg662

This movie really shows how common it was and still is that men go after their own daughters. The problem is it’s not talked about enough because black families and other families in general keep it hidden

Tyionna Williams

Did you guys not recognize that Sophia is Oprah Winfrey?!??!

Jade

Mister wasn't about to just let Celie leave with her sister, and she was just a scared 14 year old girl...

Ash Lee Can

It was cause he was white. You couldn't disrespect let alone hit a white person

Therrin Patton

Fun fact: Danny Glover "Mister" played his role so well that he was hated for years after this movie. It was hard for people (especially women) to separate Mister from Danny Glover. The same happened to Laurence Fishburne as Ike Turner in What's Love Got to Do With it.

Mr. B

Excellent choice!

Mr. B

The actor is Danny Glover. He is also in Lethal weapon franchise and you know him from almost Christmas

mondawmin mall

You heard the snip sound when they cut the umbilical cord they just didn't show it

mondawmin mall

Y’all’s commentary is top tier it’s just come natural 🤣

Dazz

EXACTLY their commentary makes a sad movie turn into a funny movie 🤣

Dazz

When Shug said "you still a virgin" Amanda was trying her best to keep it together and be respectful 🤣🤣🤣

Pdawg662

It's suppose to be a serious movie but Jay had me lmao🤣🤣🤣

Pdawg662

Facts.🤣🤣 That's why I love they reaction. Its real and authentic.

Pdawg662

Seen this once when i was a kid, don't need to see it again. I didn't like seeing them get beat.

Casey Ryback

Listen I be saying " and it's ya girl Amanda" at random moments during the day. Catchy

mondawmin mall

In the book, Mister and Shug were a couple when they were kids. She got pregnant out of wedlock. He wanted to marry her but his dad forbade him. (That’s why Shug told him she don’t want no weak man that can’t say no to his daddy.) They ended up having 3 kids together. Shug’s parents took her kids to raise & her father shunned her from the church. Shug left home to sing. The girl singing Gods Tryna Tell You Something with Shug was their daughter.

Quenna Monroe

Y’all just made my night! I’m bout to roll up & watch y’all take in this classic 💪🏾💜 I already know Amanda gone be mad at these men the whole movie 😩😂 (Personally I didn’t care for the remake.)

Quenna Monroe

Hidden figures would be a great watch for black history month

Star

You have to rember Celie lived in a world where women did not make their own choices. It never occurred to her that she could leave with Nettie. She was 14 years old and lived in a world where men never asked women what they wanted and she was trained to just obey the man. Her mother married a man that abused and assaulted her children and did not leave so she knew no different. You have to remember that she was 14 years old- a very naive 14. 14 years old in 1909 is a different mindset than 14 in 2009. Even Nettie ran away from the father - right to Mister's house. Like that was safer. Her father told her to marry and as far as she knew she had to stay with her husband until she died- like her mother - or he died - like her stepmother. A 14 year old now would refuse to marry a 40 year old man and would receive help she could go to another adult and they would be on her side. In 1909, if she sought help they would bring her right back to Mister. The first truly independent woman she met was Shug. Before that Sophia was somewhat independent but she suffered for it. And if not for Shug she might have never left....

They are very sincere so for me it feels right to support their channel. I love to see a positive young couple & I hope they stick together and keep elevating.

Nikki

the reaction at 44:52 took me out

Meme Chanel

Jae had me dying about the church & the juke joint. Them type of religious country people be in church every day all day & night 🤣. It didn’t matter what day the joint picked they were gonna be bothering those church folks.

Nikki

The gang of kids that were always playing in their yard were not all Mister’s. Some were neighborhood kids. However, yes 3 of them were Mister’s kids with his deceased wife and some of them were the kids Shug had with Mister (the ones her mom and dad were raising for her nearby). It always made me sad that we never got to see Shug have any reconciliation/reunion with she and Mister’s children. But I think the woman singing lead in the choir when Shug came in the church singing God’s Trying To Tell You Something was her daughter. So at least we did get to have that precious moment of mother and daughter singing their special song together.

TheKitt’sPajamas

This movie is great. The newer one is also imo. The newer one is said to be closer to the book than the older movie. There are scenes I like in this movie that aren't in the newer one, and vice versa. I like the ending in the newer one better though. The parts after Celie leaves Mister. Edit: Also, when Mister kicked Nettie out and Cecil told her to write, Nettie's reply was "Nothing but death can keep me from it". The "nasty women's disease" that I think Mister's father is talking about is probably gonorrhea. HIV/AIDS wasn't around yet. It wasn't discovered till the 1980's. The color purple takes place between the 1900's and 1940's.

Dark Shogun

Crooklyn

Candice

The director of the movie (said in the commentary, on the DVD) that he pulled the two girls to the side and told them to do whatever they could to not let "Mister" separate them and to stay together as best as they could no matter what he did. The man (mister) said after they all did this scene they all really cried and hugged each other because it was the worst thing he ever did or that he ever felt. The two girls was also crying not just because he was trying to separate them and it was a powerful scene, but they also said they cried because they felt like they disappointed the director because he told them to not let "Mister" separate them no matter what.

Chasity

It’s only right ! & bettt, thanks for these 💫

Jae Amanda

Coming !

Jae Amanda

That’s so sweet! Thank youu🫶🏽

Jae Amanda

Blew mineee with that

Jae Amanda

Here are some recommendations for Black History Month if it hasn’t been seen yet. Ruby Bridgets, The help, Selma, The great debaters, just mercy, when they see us, fruitville station, Selma, Malcom X, 12 years of slaves, Lee daniels the butler, Eves Bayou, Crooklyn, Fences, Judas and the black messiah. Hope you get a chance watching some of these this month!!!!

Peaches

Excellent movie.

Nikki

For Black History Month - A Soldier’s Story. Denzel is in it. It received 3 Academy awards. It’s a mystery which makes it different. It’s based on a play that won a Pulitzer award for drama. A lot of the younger ones aren’t aware of this movie but it’s excellent and a historical piece that will stick with you.

Nikki

The girl running on the tracks was a random girl who probably chases trains often who Ceily (as an older person) saw as a young Nettie.

Mr. B

Did you notice that Ms. Sophia was played by Oprah Winfrey?

Mr. B

Great movie but unlike my mother I can’t watch it a lot lol. Makes me sad and angry a lil too much for my liking. Future flicks for black history month though: (all genres not just drama) boomerang, do the right thing, Malcolm x, Judas and the black messiah, hidden figures, fences, if Beale street could talk, one night in Miami, and sorry to bother you. When jae older he should check out a documentary called “I am not your negro”. Quite excellent.

Kangdarius

I think they wrote a lot of the kids out of the script as they got older to save screen time or those kids just didn’t grow after 30 years lol but if you want sci-fi I highly recommend the Back to the Future trilogy

Richard

Ooo yall should definitely add Judas and the black messiah for black history month 🤍🤍

Meme Chanel

y’all should check out the 2023 version. it’s based on the broadway musical version and it has a much lighter tone. you’ll definitely like it. also in the book, shug and celie had a romantic relationship and even had sex. the 1985 movie toned that down since it would have been considered taboo

tedd

YES SIR IM GETTING TO IT IM GETTING TO IT 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dazz

My first time hearing this. That’s an interesting one 💯

Rondo

She was saying “nothing but death can keep me from here”. Sophia is Oprah Winfrey when she was bigger. She lost a lot of weight over the years so maybe that’s why y’all didn’t recognize her. No, that was Big Red from the Five Heartbeats that y’all recognized in the Juke Joint scene.

Rondo

Crazy facts about this movie the girls who played younger version of the sisters weren't acting in the scene where he kicked the other sister out because they had spent so much time together on and off scenes that they grew attached to each other so that scene was all real that's how they really felt being apart 💖💖

Lyniss Barnes

Jay you said what type of moisture Shea or Carols Daughter NOT IN 1909 😭😭😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dazz

When he threw the sister out she was screaming nothing but death can keep me from her

Jazmine Cheek

Few movies for BHM: Do The Right Thing, Just another girl on the IRT, Malcolm X and See you Yesterday. Just a few I already suggested.

Gary Best
