I like that the film doesn't answer this question for everyone... These are mature, elderly men who have basically grown up in prison. The average age of arrest is 17 and it’s no coincidence. People generally “age out” of the hormones, impulses, ego and lack of self awareness that lead to criminal behavior. These are mature, elderly men - 55, 60 years old... they are truly different people than they were before. Of course, they may never get a chance to prove that.
