Why was Samuel's character acting like that: Remember when Django said a Black slaver is lower than the head house n-word? Samuel didn't like Django because as the head house n-word, he despises all Black folks. He can't imagine a world where Black person would have more status than him. Samuel is simply being a hater.

Listening to you guys I realize the elders have done a real disservice teaching Black American history to the youth & what really went down. It was not uncommon for freed men to lose their freedom. The laws did not protect Black folks. Under up until the Civil Rights Act of 1965 even our right to vote wasn’t guaranteed. That’s my mother’s generation.

I normally can’t watch slave movies anymore because they disturb me. Like I’ll never watch 12 Years a Slave, but this movie felt different, and also gives western. I liked the revenge aspect. Leonardo played this role very well. Now I understand all the memes from this movie 😂

Oh it for sure has too many. Especially the ones for comedic effect. Tarantino pulled off the biggest con in a movie. Had black folks thinking this is such a black superhero film but the white dude is the savior. Didn’t even let Jamie kill Leo.

I think the extensive use of N-word makes sense in context, given that this is pre-Civil War Southern US, and the movie is all about getting back at white slavers. The use of N-word is depicted as totally not a good thing throughout the movie. A similar reaction to the liberal use of N-word occurred when the Western parody movie Blazing Saddles came out. But it is also one of the first Western movies to highlight racism against Black people in the Old West.
