Signs (2002)

It's called providing depth with perspective for discussion and/or pondering. Just because you lack the ability to muster up more than maybe than a sentence and a half before your brain fragments heat up and dribble out of your ears, doesn't mean people with actual intelligence must subject themselves to operating in such way to satisfy random, ignorant strangers who likes their own comments for validation, smooth-brain...

Ash Lee Can

nobody asked you to write a book report =)

You're in my comments, weirdo...

calm down

Casey Ryback

The wife had to die for the rest of the family to live. Ray had to fall asleep at the wheel right time, 10-15 secs after passing her on the road, for her to die and give Graham the message. If she didn't die, then they probably would have died.

It makes sense if the aliens were desperate. Morgan said that the aliens most likely used up all of the resources on their planet. If they were out of resources and desperate for a place to go, it would make sense. Also, you can't expect that the aliens would automatically know actually know what water even is just because WE do. WE know what water is because we LIVE here. It's a vital part of our lives in general. But just because WE know what water is, we can't assume that aliens would know. That like humans to going an entirely different planet and expecting them to know every aspect and element on that planet. If we have no knowledge of a certain element ls because we've never encountered it before, how are we to know if it's dangerous to us or not? Even if they did know that water was lethal to them, if they were really out of resources and desperate, they'd probably be willing to risk it if theybhad little other choices...

I just wrote a whole super long comment to explain Morgan's comments, "I wish you were my dad" and "I hate you... You let mom die", or at least my interpretation of it as to WHY he said those things, and the whole comment got wiped right before about about to send it 🤦🏾‍♀️... Anyways, this was one of my favorite movies for a while when it came out. I was 12 and I used to watched this on dvd like every weekend. From knowing all of the lines, to me standing in the living room imitating the scene of Merle grabbing the bat and going up against the alien with the bat going and although I always loved the aliens & mystery aspect of it, I also absolutely always loved the beautiful story that was being told. I've never been religious whatsoever, but I've never let that deter me from enjoying and appreciating a story heavily tied to or involving it, and always been someone who's respected people's religions (Prince of Egypt is one of my favorite, and possibly the greatest, animated movies of all time, and I actually worked in a Christian private school at one point). What's funny is that I always grew up on horror movies. Been watching since I was a kid because my mother's a fan. Those are fun for me. The movies that absolutely terrifies me though? End of the world movies, as in movies that about the world coming to an end and there's nothing you can really do about it. Usually alien invasions or even worse, natural disasters somehow. I can't watch those lol. This movie is a happy balance as a whole isn't really that scary unless you really dwell heavy on the isolating setting. It's more of mystery thriller in that sense, but itndoes have a few great jump scares. A lot people talk about the part with the alien popping up on birthday party video (it's absolutely an iconic part that's been talked more a lot more in more recent years), or even the part with the alien in the pantry scene or the alien in the pantry, but no one ever talks about the alien grabbing Morgan through the coal chute. That was the part that really got me when I first watched it lol. But the actual story honestly makes this movie forever have a special place in my heart... I would kinda put this movie in the same vein as The Walking Dead for me, personally. Let me explain lol. The zombie apocalypse is the setting, but that's not really the most important aspect the story being told. To me, I always explain The Walking Dead being about "Who do you become when the world ends?". Again, the setting for this question happened to be a zombie apocalypse. It could have been a nuclear explosion, a natural disaster, or something else as it's setting, but that's not what's really important. Does it affect the story? Absolutely. A setting and environment can play a significant role in how a story plays out or affect how we react and/or think. The Walking Dead is simply a journey about the psychological evolution of different characters as they try to survive in a world where civilization no longer exists. That's why there are people who absolutely hates horror that absolutely loves TWD. A lot of zombie movies (especially older ones) didn't really have that aspect to its story, probably because it's hard to do in a 1 1/2 - 2 hr film over 11+ seasons of storytelling, so it was very different than other zombie stories. I always say, if you're watching TWD for the zombies and action, then you're watching it wrong... Now, with Signs, I consider this story to be much different than most movies about aliens/alien invasions. It actually REALLY quiet. For one, this doesn't take place in a city. It's on a rural, isolated farm surrounded by a cornfield. It's not chaotic or crazy like you would normally see in an alien invasion film. The alien invasion is the setting and a catalyst to the actual bigger/important story. This is a story about a family struggling with their grief after losing a loved one. THAT is the focus of the story. It's about a widower who lost his faith and the journey of him getting it back. It took an alien invasion to help them get there due to the impending doom of it all, but that's pretty much what the movie's about. The setting of the alien invasion pushed them to that point of actually healing this family. I always say, if you're watching Signs for the alien invasion, then you're watching wrong. The best part? Realizing that the very thing that made Graham lose his faith is also the very thing that helped him gain it back. Absolutely beautiful storytelling... I actually haven't watched this movie in probably 15 years due to Mel Gibson unfortunately being Mel Gibson, and I didn't want to continue supporting his work. But I can admit that he was absolutely amazing in this film. Joaquin Phoenix as well and Merle's probably an underrated character. He was the one who held that family together... The children are played by Rory Culkin (Scream IV) and Abigail Breslin (Zombieland 1 & 2). Both were amazing in this movie. Getting great actors in a movie is difficult enough, but great child actors? And they got two of them for this film. I mean, a film like this, you have to. The children are literally half of the main cast. Not only that, but going up again two amazing, adult actors as well. I remember listening to the dvd commentary one time, and the director was talking about the dinner and how they were doing takes of different closeup shots of each character. The first person they did was Abigail, and they said she was good that when she broke down crying, EVERYBODY on set broke and was crying. Also, there's deleted scenes you can find on YouTube, including a 5 minute deleted scene between the part where Merle notices the attic door and them going into the basement that's really good. It gives an even further insight of the dynamic between Graham & Merle that I really liked...

When he said its like "War Of The Worlds" if yall have or had seen that movie yall would know what he meant lol, that movie along with others like Terminator,I-Robot,The Matrix,A.I etc could be more of the industries "Predictive programming".This reminded me of the comedy "Paul" yall should check that out in future too lol i remember that "crop circles" phenomenon years ago think that is where they took the idea for this movie.Theres been a theory the past few years that they are going to stage a fake alien invasion (think project bluebeam) to scare the masses into accepting a one world government "Order Out Of Chaos" comes to mind

Jae Amanda

Yall was asking about why everything happened they way it did, it was all Signs get it? Lol . Both of his kids were gifted, his brother failed baseball career which led him there, his daughter water issue, and his wife said that accident was meant to be. So she had to die for her son to live. They say God works in mysterious ways
