Wicked - FULL REACTION

This musical film was absolutely phenomenal!! The songs, the choreography, the characters and the settings were all breathtaking but the highlight for me is simply the story of Elphaba and her journey of self acceptance to fighting for something bigger than herself. Enjoy :)

From Elpheba to Elsa... and, yeah. I love that moment at the Oz Dust Ballroom where Glinda's whole arc just... turns irrevocably. She doesn't have Elpheba's defiant strength, but she's not able to have that casual cruelty that she had when she was just... an entitled mean girl.

“what has she actually done? Nothing!” This line perfectly encapsulates how propaganda works: turning nothing into something, turning innocent people and religions into something bad, people into terrorists, and many other things. Despite trying to do good, she’s branded as “wicked” through the manipulation of Morrible and the Wizard. This reflects the real world, where misinformation and fear can easily distort public opinion. It’s so sad, but we have to be aware and educated. I love this movie so much because it reminds us to question what we’re told and to look beyond the surface.

One thing I love about Wicked (besides the obvious things) is that it's such a loud an unapologetic story about racism. Yes it's fantasy but the way Elphaba and the animals get treated is just human history. They work around this well by having Shiz students be all kinds of ethnicities because it shows that in our world white people get to be as unique as they want to. Get to wear what they want to. Get to do what they want to. Elphaba only got accepted because Galinda, a BLONDE WHITE WOMAN, accepted her. And the animals? Yeah that's just straight up slavery and colonization. Getting their culture stolen? Being blamed for everything? Not being allowed to speak? Heck this is even still happening now if you look at the US. Many white people think how this story goes is a little ridiculous at first but then kinda clock it but poc? Especially black people? Yeah we get it IMMEDIATELY. It's super on the nose. And I love it. For all the flashy things it's quite realistic.
