E.T. - FULL REACTION

It was so much fun watching another fantastic Spielberg film! I loved the focus on the relationship between this boy and an innocent alien. I apologise for my constant yawning by the way. Enjoy :)

E.T. - FULL REACTION

Yes! Stand by me is a child-acting masterclass.

Maisie

A buffer film between the two would be needed lol

Thomas B

Man, that's one double feature guaranteed to cause depression 😅 both beautiful films

Rhetorical Thrill

If I may: Stand by Me (1986) Dead Poets Society (1989)

Thomas B

While you're on a "classic" kid's movie kick, can I suggest Matilda (1996)?

Maisie

Day 50: of suggesting (my girl 1991)

Emilie Fredriksen

This one always makes me cry. I don't watch it often, but it is a masterpiece! One of my favorite Spielberg's is Gremlins, which is more of a Christmas movie to be honest, but you could watch it anytime of year. Its more fun at Christmas though.

Jenny MacRunnel

Wow, this brought me back. I've not seen this since I was a kid. My brother and I were often chucked out of the house to play and would roam the streets and local fields having fun, climbing trees and getting up to mischief. Unfortunately today's world isn't nearly as safe, and I can't ever imagine letting my own children do that now. Which makes me really sad for them. The music from this film MADE this movie for me, and is one of the theme tracks of my childhood. Glad you were able to appreciate it, despite how dated it has become.

Christina Moxon

Darnit, here come the tears. 😢 This movie always make me cry. But I love it. Beautiful story. 🥹

It's exactly as you said actually. That's what Spielberg intended there, to portrait adults as "the villains" and keep their faces hidden since the film is told through a kid's point of view and to them, adults looked ominous at first when in reality they try to understand what E.T. is and help him return home

I had already seen E.T. on my own when my grandmother later decided to take her younger grandchildren to see it. I went along and saw it again. Afterward, I asked what she thought of it, and she said “Beautiful photography.” That was it. It was not something I would have said as a first reaction, so I pressed her for a little more and she said, “Well, the photography was really beautiful… but every so often something ugly got in the way of the camera.” It was then I realized she didn’t have the capacity to absorb science-fiction.

The music for ET might be my favorite from John Williams. I also love the part of music when the bikes start flying and that song is called "Flying" It's also included in "ET's Halloween" when ET and Elliott fly for the first time and it's in many other songs for the movie If you go back and watch the Halloween scene when ET sees a kid dressed like Yoda, you can hear a few seconds of the Star Wars theme mixed into the music. John Williams was nominated 48 times for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, but only won 5 times. The ET score was one of those 5 wins. The others are for Schindler's List, Star Wars (A New Hope), Jaws and Fiddler on the Roof (Best song score) Harry Potter was nominated and I'm surprised it didn't win. He was very busy doing music almost every year around this time with The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, E.T in 1982, Return of the Jedi in 1983 and continued scoring movies every year until the mid 2000's when there were a couple years between the movies he scored. This movie gets me in the feels every time I watch it and I always get teary at the end.

If you want a suggestion of another 80s movie about kids and aliens you should watch 1985s The Explorers, young Ethan Hawke and the late River Phoenix

Maribel Gonzalez

I forgot to add my recommendation for Spielberg's earlier "first contact" film: "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" with more of an adult perspective.

Hi Oscar, I was born in 1970, so I was one of those kids who got to go play outside. When I was around 7, our backyard met up with the backyard of the house from the next street and there were kids at multiple houses next to each other. My mom would send us out to play on a Saturday morning and not to come home until she called my brother and I for dinner. We were never further than playing in my neighbor's yard with their kids and all the adults would keep an eye on us wherever we went. Then if we'd go to another house or if the kids would come to my house, it was unspoken, but the parents would keep any eye on us as we would go from one yard or house to the next. My mom would stick her head out the back door and call my brother and my name and to come hone for dinner. We moved to a neighborhood where at the end of the streets there would be sidewalks connecting all the residential streets and we could go a little further. I was probably 9 or 10 and out of range of mom's voice. The was a giant grass mound along the sidewalk at the end of my street where we would play tag and my mom told us to be home when the street lights came one, but I had forgotten that it stayed lighter out later and I looked at my watch and saw it was 8:00 at night!. It was nice growing up in the late 70's and 80's like these kids and I was also about the same age as the Stranger Things kids.

I always had a hard time getting into this movie, but I can see how it’s influenced other work that came after it. It does a great job of creating an eerie atmosphere. The kids are pretty great in this and ET is cute. His neck & fingers always creeped me out. Would love to see you react to The Land Before Time. It’s an animated one about dinos. Executive producer by Steven Spielberg & George Lucas.

Easy Breezy Bri

Actually now that I’m watching, he is kinda cute, he’s like a mix of an orangutan, a frog, and a pug

Sarah Marion

I was scared of E.T as a kid, idk if it’s the voice or the neck or the fingers idk

Sarah Marion

Aw! I had no idea about this. That's so sweet!

Raven Dark

I never realized just HOW similar Stranger things is to E.T. The family dynamics, the connection between Elliot and ET, and the eerie atmosphere, it's all there!

Elvira

I remember the first time you said you wanted to watch this movie was when you watched the jurassic park movies, which has been a while🙏🏼gives me hope that you'll still watch the jurassic world movies like you said when you finished jurassic park🥹

Maike_Staytiny

I love movies from this time, they have the coolest stories and music. The music from this movie reminds me really much of 'Neverending story'. Also a very good movie from the 80s i think, or late 70s. You should really watch it, it traumatized me a bit as a kid so I'm still dcared of the gmork, but you should be fine🤣

Maike_Staytiny

If you like movie music, our National Broadcaster put out a radio show every week called “Movies and Musicals” on Lyric FM by RTE. You can play it online, it’s about 3 hours each week and it’s a lovely mix of movie music.

Ali D

No need to apologize for yawning, that really doesn't affect the viewing experience xD But are you doing okay? You've mentioned quite often how tired you are recently, please take care of yourself!

Sarah

Wanted to see this movie again so perfect🔥 Please also watch Moana 2❤️

Aleksander Jørgensen

Pleaaase, watch Fleabag!!!

Linda R Martins

I'd forgotten that this was part of the "hatred of the government" starter pack for kids. Suddenly a lot of things about me are making sense.

Rhetorical Thrill

So you did get the 'gun' version. A later release of it substituted two-way radios for the guns to quell criticisms. As you said, a truly iconic John Williams score. One of my favorites. Another is "Hook", which you asked about. Seen it? Btw, as I am aware, Williams did 26 films for Spielberg, starting with "Jaws".

Jim Schmitz

Oh this is the best surprise! Thank you!! I love this movie. Spielberg had a brilliant strategy when making it—he insisted on shooting all the scenes in order, so that the children would be truly invested in their relationship with ET in the later scenes. Fun fact: Drew Barrymore actually thought ET was real. She used to eat her lunch with him. When Spielberg realized this, he ordered someone to man ET’s controls at all times when Drew was talking to him, so he could engage with her.

Maisie

I was just recently thinking it would be so great if you reacted to this one!! I'm so glad you did 😍

Anna H

This will be interesting. My parents took me to a re-release of this when I was very small, at a drive in theater. It scared the ever living bajabbers out of me and I've had a distrust for it ever since. But it's manicure night and I need something to watch 🤔

Rhetorical Thrill

keeping with the Spielberg movie family but just on the opposite side of the timeline I recommend the land before time 1-10 but you can do all 14 if you like the series

Tate Wells

Thank you so much. I will. Take care. I hope everyone is doing well.

Shané Kummer

Hope you recover quickly, Shane'

Jim Schmitz

No flickin' way...Fuzzy Face made my day!!

Jim Schmitz

Awesome. I'm putting this on my to-do list for tomorrow. Ive been sick again. I've been watching all your ice ages. I love reactions video. You are doing great job keep it up. I love your facial hair. It's growing out nicely.

Shané Kummer
