Friends S7 Ep: 17 & 18 - FULL REACTION

I can't believe Joey was nominated for an award!! It was so fun though seeing him at an award show along with Rachel but the highlight for me was definitely Ross and Joey trying to win the heart of the same woman. Enjoy :)

Plot mistake ... Monica Geller's bathroom has NEVER been out of toilet paper 🤣🤣🤣 And if you've never witnessed a once a month "bargain" sale in Brooklyn NY, if you've seen the Dothraki wedding of Dany Targaryen to Aquaman in S1 GOT then you've pretty much got the right idea🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fun facts: E17 was meant to air in the first half of the season but was pushed back to the second half. You can tell by scenes from this episode appearing in the theme song and the fact the barcalounger in Monica and Chandler's apartment isn't broken yet. In the DVD extended version in E17, after Joey and Ross are busy yelling out the embarrassing stuff about each other in front of Kristen and she leaves, they get up to leave and the waiter comes over to tell them their table is ready. They look at each other and Ross says "Are you hungry?" and Joey replies "Does a bear shit in the woods?" Matt LeBlanc improvised that line. Phoebe pretending to "accept" the Nobel Prize award for massage is a reference to 3x15 in which Phoebe dated a diplomat she met at the UN (played by Charlie Sheen). She was giving free massages outside the UN claiming "bodies at peace make peace" and Monica said "You might just get the first Nobel Prize in rubbing". Jessica Ashley is played by Alison Sweeney, who actually was one of the main characters on Days Of Our Lives for 25 years (up until 2022). Also, John Aniston, Jennifer Aniston's father, was on the show from 1985 until he passed away in 2022. The name Jessica Ashley is a combination of the names of Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson. The actress who plays Kristen is Gabrielle Union who is most  famous for Bring It On, 10 Things I Hate About You, She's All That and Being Mary Jane just to name a few. Allegedly, they called her in for this guest star role to fulfill the diversity requirements. She has mentioned in recent interviews that she wasn't treated well. The other bride-to-be, Megan, is played by Andrea Bendewald, one of Jennifer Aniston's best friends. She was even a bridesmaid at her wedding to Brad Pitt and Jennifer was her matron of honor at her wedding. The presenter at the Soapie Awards is McKenzie Westmore who was on two different soap operas: Passions and All My Children. Goofs: The dress Monica finds at the store where the sale is is not the same dress she tried on before, but then the dress changes back to the original when they are admiring it on the couch and when she tries it on in front of Chandler. Joey says that he can't afford to take Kristen out for a fancy dinner, but he's a star on a popular soap opera so he should have been able to afford it.

The actress that played the one who won the award, was actually on Days of Our Lives. She played Sammy Brady off and on since the early 90's. It always made me laugh that Joey was cast on a soap that films in LA and not NY. That's one heck of a commute!

I don't feel Megan's behavior was over the top, considering Monica assaulted her and triple-teamed the confiscation. As they say, "All's fair in matrimonial preparation"... 👰

That scene with Joey when he loses the award always makes me laugh so hard 🤣

I’ve always said that as well - by the end of the series, I might say she’s my favourite. And maybe it’s because she starts off SO ditzy and vapid in S1, that when we get to the final season, I think she has grown the most. Her confidence and her humour make her so much fun to watch.

i’m getting super excited for the end of this season; easily my favourite finale

Giving up the dress was such a great moment for Monica. I'll be honest, she's one of the characters I like less as time goes on but that moment is huge for her. I love how she says "oh crap," when she realizes how much the band means to Chandler, not because it makes the decision hard, but because it makes it easy, and it means she's going to give up something she wants (and kicked some ass for 🤣).

Rhetorical Thrill

Joey's award was for "Best Returning Character" so I guess it makes sense that it'd be so soon after he made his comeback. The Soapies seem more similar to something like the Teen Choice Awards than the Emmys.

You’re so right about the progression in Rachel’s character! I love when she gets more humorous and in her element in the later seasons.

They were all nominated for acting Emmys at some point (except Courteney Cox), but only Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston won. Lisa Kudrow won Supporting Actress for "The One with Ross's Wedding" when she was pregnant and they were in London, and Jennifer Aniston won Lead Actress for Season 8 (the next season). From Season 1-7, they all submitted themselves under "supporting actor/actress" and from Season 8-10, "lead actor/actress". Lisa Kudrow was nominated the most times (Seasons 1, 3-7).
