Friends S6 Ep: 1 & 2 - FULL REACTION

This was a WILD intro to season 6. Ross is already starting to go back to his old ways and despite Monica and Chandler not going through with their marriage, they are still taking big steps in their relationship. Enjoy :)

Both parties would need to consent to it, though, and at the very least sign some legal forms. Otherwise one person might think they’re still married while the other has ended it behind their back.

I mean Ross didn't seem to know either and he's supposed to be a professor lol. And anyway, since annulment is basically like the marriage never happened it's not REALLY ending a marriage, as you can't end something that never started.

Nick Reacts right? I found Oscar through him! Also, if you don't follow them already I recommend NickFlix who's on S5 and Audrey from Songs from a Suitcase who just started S2. The latter always sings and claps to the song but keot messing it up until like ep. 20 of S1 😂

When Ross says that he and Rachel shouldn't have been allowed to get married due to how drunk they were, he's actually correct. In reality, marriages in which one or both of the partners is under the influence of alcohol are invalid. This also means that Phoebe is half-right when she says their marriage doesn't count because it happened in Las Vegas; it doesn't count, but not for her reason. Rachel's line "This isn't a marriage, this is just the world's worst hangover!" was actually improvised during shooting, as the original line "Stop saying the word 'marriage'!" wasn't considered funny enough. Matthew Perry also improvised Chandler's line "I don't think they're as much dating as they are two bottles of vodka walking around in human form" after the original line "I don't think they're as much dating as they are drunk" failed to get laughter from the audience. And Joey's line "this is where I make my money back" was also not in the original script. The scene with the cookie has always baffled me because Monica has always been a great cook!

I find it curious that Phoebe is such a die-hard R&R shipper, but when it comes to C&M her attitude is basically "my friend could do better than that loser". I really enjoy story-lines with Phoebe and Ross, their friendship has such an interesting dynamic, but she really doesn't seem to like Chandler all that much. IIRC, Rachel's line "This isn't a marriage; this is the world's worst hangover" was not just ad-libbed by Aniston (or thought up on the spot by someone in the cast/crew) but drew such a huge laugh that they had to go with a canned laugh instead to keep it short enough. I really don't like the annulment story-line though, because it paints Rachel in such a bad light. She may be a ditz at times but she's definitely not stupid, she couldn't possibly believe that you could end a marriage without both parties partaking in the process. I wish they would have tweaked it just a little bit. Episode 6x2 also has my least-favourite title, TOW Ross Hugs Rachel. The point of the episode naming theme is to make it easier for viewers to identify the episodes. Tell someone "hey, you know that episode where Ross and Rachel hug?" is just going to cause confusion, since it could refer to any number of episodes. I personally would have preferred TOW Ross Doesn't Want an Annulment/Divorce, or something along those lines. In general though, I think these are two really strong opening episodes for the season. Schwimmer in particular is on fire (I love his "how is this going to affect you? really?" bit). I also love Chandler and Monica deciding to move in together. It's a logical step and it brings some interesting story-lines not just for them as a couple but with Chandler and Rachel moving. Btw, there's an interesting behind the scenes featurette on the making of the season premiere. If memory serves it used to be on the season 6 DVD, but you can probably find it on YT. It's something interesting to check out on your own time.

Totally agree, Ross just really wants to be in love and be married, so when his guard was down while drunk of course that’s something he would want to do lol. And I do feel for him to an extent…like his first wife he couldn’t do anything about, but that’s what completely messed him up and shaped his need for marriage not to fail more than anything else has. Instead of being more cautious before marrying again, it almost feels like he just wants to pick up where his first marriage left off or something.

David's acting in the last episode especially was spot on. Just the look at the end as he's hugging Rachel, never seen a face scream out so clearly "Oooooh...."

Paul

I have to do the clap. It’s involuntary at this point. 😆

Oscar, Courtney married the actor who was Ursula’s stalker and Phoebe tried to help him stop. They met filming the first Scream movie around 1995.

Tara

I follow another reactor who is also watching Friends (because I can’t get enough) and he is in the middle of S8. and when a new season starts or when they change the opening in the middle of the season, he will typically comment on the clips and the episodes they came from.

Tara

I do the clap every single time it’s impossible for me not to.

Raquel Perodin

Tell me I’m not the only one who loves watching the opening credits, sang along and did the famous clap thing? The newer generations don’t do any of this and thus MISSED all the new edits for the opening credits every NEW season… AND missed everyone’s name having “Arquette”. 😑

Kal

I love this season it’s amazing

Some episodes are simple/shallow and some hit you with complicated emotions. I first watched this show when I was 16 and didn't have much life experience. But now, 15 years later, I've done plenty of moving in and out of places and said "goodbye" to a few eras. When I moved out of college, my best friends and I tearfully hugged goodbye after three wonderful years of living in the same home. My mom was driving the uhaul and as we drove out of the city, I broke down in sobs. In life, sometimes the chapters meld together and you don't see their vague delineation until later and sometimes they sever painfully. It felt like part of my soul was left in that house, in that era, and the farther I drove away, the more I felt it pulled from me until it snapped off. My mom just rubbed my back and said "just cry it out, that's the only thing to do right now." This episode hits harder now. Yes, there are still seasons of friendship for us to laugh along with, but you can still feel how much it hurts as they close a chapter to start a new one. I was in my emotions watching, just like you.

I wanted to point out the opening credits for S6E01, where all of the cast members had "Arquette" at the end of their names to pay homage to Courteney Cox and David Arquette getting married. From hereonin, Courteney Cox will be billed as Courteney Cox Arquette in Friends.
