I think it might be my favorite Pixar sequel (even though it's a prequel 😄) It has the right blend of fan service with being its own, new thing. The only missing aspect that would have been a nice addition is Mike's eventual comedic talent. Just something small here and there would have been fantastic!

As a matter of fact, I feel like they gave him so little screen time that it's unreasonable he became this absolute piece of shit we saw in INC coming from being a good kid with just some confidence and self-value issues who got humiliated in public in University. It remains consistent for a portion of his character but going from this to not caring about harming children for personal gain is a huge stretch. Surely more stuff happened to him other than keep getting 2nd place because with what went on in this movie I don't buy his transformation for a second. Still a pretty good prequel, though.

2024-06-08 08:08:38 +0000 UTCI'm super glad you watched this, I thought about recommending it when you watched the original. It's not one of Pixar's greatest and it retcons some things but it's an extremely solid entry in the canon that's perfectly entertaining in its own right.

The ending is perfect, the fact that it takes time and an unconventional route for Mike and Sulley to eventually get to where they want to be is such a good message, it's really stuck with me since I first watched it.
