I may have messed up a little...

Excuses first, as is customary.

I got tunnel vision. In the last post I mentioned that I was struggling to get a simulation to work for way longer than I should have. I kept on it for even more time than that, and once it was done I realised the final full product was crap. So I went back, gave it better background, cos I'd concentrated too much on the character and his actions and had left everything around him blank and looking like no effort had gone into it.

So I spent another day making it all look better, extending the original thing a bit and trying to make it look like something I can be proud of. I went to add an extra scene as well, but it proved too technical and I wanted the thing finished finally. So I released it.

Confident that I'd done everything I had to do, I relaxed and got back to Kyn and Efa. Until this morning when I jumped onto Patreon because it had an alert showing, and I noticed that in all the confidence I had felt, I'd missed Patreon. Arguably the most important one to be updating.

So, I can only apologise, and stipulate that after all that talk about being proud about the final thing, I'm not sure "proud" is a thing you should be when it's an animation about a wolf with a vibrator stuck on him.

In other news, despite being quiet about things, I have been working on Wilderness. I'm still blocking out the first scene, which somehow I've done yet another fucking longtake. This one is currently 1min40s long, because let's be honest, I genuinely hate myself and feel the need to suffer more. It's going to be longer. That's just as far as I've got so far with it. Luckily, the bulk of it is landscape and procedurals. Unfortunately, that means making the landscape look better. The wide shots of the valley at the end of the last episode, all the trees on the mountains were just basic spheres. This time, they're actual tree shapes. I've been making trees.

Other than that, the character part is blocked out, and I'm hoping I can start some animation and rendering this weekend. Two of the new characters are underway, with head scuplting happening next. I've also found a neat bit of software for generating hullplating, so going to play with that and try to get some good texturing going as well.

In summary: Sorry I forgot to post the wolf thing to you guys, here's the wolf thing, Wilderness is progressing. Also another sorry.

One final thing, today I learned that Celtic countries have the female name "Aoife". It's pronounced "EE-FA". And I thought I'd made her name up.

I may have messed up a little... I may have messed up a little...

I think they need to be scaled back a bit to be honest, they show up nicely in close shots, but I think having them as a forest, you'll miss a lot of detail and bog down the render. Probably easier to just go back to the spheres but add some displacement. At least it was a quick render.

Good art is worth being proud of, regardless of content. Heck, arguably anything that a person's put significant time and energy into is something they can be proud of, especially if you're happy with the result! 's a very nice animation in my eyes as well, as ever the movement is spot-on. Definitely don't sweat not updating us, I don't think we're contributing nearly enough to warrant the worry, heh. Long takes make for impressive results at the end, but they'e not worth the effort if they make you feel like crap. There's already enough suffering about, no need to bring more on yourself, heh. Might also be careful about the trees, have had at least two other animators find that they're more complicated to get right than one might think. Your results look good so far!
