Hello and HAPPY FRIDAY, PATRONS! How have you all been? I hope you've all had decent weeks! Mine has been pretty chill, but consistently busy. I have final papers/projects due for our summer quarter of school in a week and a half so I'm currently practicing active procrastination! What fun! It's also beyond wild to me to realize that once these papers/projects are handed in I'll officially be halfway through my masters program. WILD. ABSOLUTELY BONKERS BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBTS. WOOF!
Okay but before we completely spiral on the idea of time and where it goes and what we make of it or waste of it let's talk about Drag Race All Stars! This week's episode was everyone favorite horny love hunt...SNATCH GAME! Ohhhh we, did we get snatched this week!
We start the episode with Pandora getting to stay and the warning that Eureka has to step it up (even in those tiny lil tap shoes). She says she feels like she's always the bridesmaid and never the bride. But has she even made it to Bridesmaid status? I see her kinda as the wedding DJ but never the bride? Anyway! Moving on!
IT’S SNATCH GAME!!!!
Ginger’s taking on Phyllis Diller (one of the first female comedians)…very cool, and a safe bet for her to shine! Eureka is taking on Divine…and Pandora is taking on ...the look of a lost child/ghost in the werkroom silently cursing all the other queens with her mind. And also Kim Catrell! I can see that horny resting bitch face translating for her...but I'm worried she's still full of doubt in herself! Meanwhile, Kylie is doing Dolly! Oh boy! I’m nervous for her! I feel like Kylie has more of the energy to play a monotoned version of Lauren Conrad from the Hills vs a bouncy bubbly blonde whose taken over country-pop music and the hearts of the world decades. But I will love to be proven wrong! Ra’jah is doing LaToya Jackson - Ru’s close friend of 25 years! That seems like a blessing and a curse! Oh wait, that's just Pandora silently lingering in the background. Moving on!
Let's get right into the games. They were broken up into groups of three, which is slightly a bummer because I would have loved to watch them all interact with each other...especially Eureka and Ginger... they're both campy comedy queens and I would have loved to watch them play off each other!
But BAM! Out of the gate Kylie isn’t doing terrible! TKB is struggling a little, but Kylie is surprisingly nailing it and it’s fun to watch Ginger step up and get competitive! As a shock to no one, Ginger, with her squirmy little lady legs, kills it! TKB gets caught in her head trying to play Whitney but I do appreciate that she's laughing and having a good time and that the other queens even tried to help her out. But still, she should have wrote down and memorized like the 10 most famous Witney songs/quotes/moments and then just had them locked and loaded. There's gotta be a Buzzfeed article for that!
Eureka is Divine and comes out blazing! Like, inferno hellfire kill kill blaze lol. She looks perfectly like Divine but she's taking the energy up to a 12 every chance she gets. Which is true to Divine but unfortunately makes Pandora's Kim Cattrall a little less impressive. Again, she looks great but the character works seems meek and timid vs the potential for her to play a sex oozing cougar ego maniac with a kink for upsetting a reboot. I’m nervous for her! Meanwhile, Ra’jah's LaToya is a slow build but she really killed Ru! She didn't do anything spectacular but she really took Ru's werkroom note of Laytoya deeply loving something while simultaneously having zero experience with it - so I can appreciate that she gave Ru what she wanted!
Overall, I think they all did …. just fine! No one truly bombed, but a lot of them did better than expected or as good as I assumed. There still wasn't a complete stand out for me, but I guess that's because I kinda expected Ginger to do well? Though I think I liked her Adele more...just because it was such a sillier twist on the character. I'm assuming Ginger or Kylie (which I'm still processing how impressed I am with her!) are the top - but I’m worried TKB and Pandora might be on the bottom?
Runway category: Pop Art! Yay! I FREAKING LOVE POP ART!!!
Ginger: ohhhh I love the warhol color block selfie dress - CUTE
Kylie: also has a dress with her own face on it, CUTE...and I love the hint of crack and the cartoony old school stole
Eureka: ANOTHER Warhol/Twiggy type color block dress with her own face on it...uh oh
Pandora: ANOTHER CAPE WITH HER OWN FACE ON IT...what are we doing here, people
Ra:Jah: A FUR COAT WITH HER OWN FACE ON IT LOL OKAY, EVERYONE, OKAY
TKB: FINALLY SOMETHING DIFFERENT! And something incredible! A BLM pop art look! WOW! AMAZING! A look that isn’t just about her own face, but about something important and political while still keeping it fucking pop art fierce...I LOVE THIS LOOK
The judging happens and I'm not surprised by any of the critiques. As a gag to absolutely no one, Ginger wins! Thank god, let her go put her arms down! And my assumptions were right, TKB and Pandora are on the bottom. D’oh! TKB seems at peace with in knowing she was ahead in wins and that this wasn't going to be a strong challenge for her. Pandora, on the other hand, you can tell is devastated. She was the winner of the first ever Snatch Game, that's a lot of pressure to put on yourself!
And after watching Untucked for this episode it was crushing to see how in her own head Pandora is about comedy lately. Something I can totally relate to. The fear of offending someone can block up your whole haha system and then you feel like your super powers have been turned off. It's a tough spot to be in, and you can tell that Pandora just doesn't have her head in the game.
Meanwhile, Ginger gets into some quick Dolly drag to take on lip sync! The assassin is Heidi N Closet!! Ohhhh I love me some Heidi! And I especially loved Ginger telling her she’s feeling “soft and supple” lololol! The lip sync starts strong but Heidi’s hair almost immediately falls into a ponytail! It wasn't the reveal she wanted, but we got there! The rest of the lip synch was lots o camp from Ginger and lots of splits and tricks from Heidi! I thought it was a good one! Ginger is the winner (though TBH I thought Heidi should have won ...or tied 🤷🏼♀️) - but she’s still leaves as an appreciative, goofy, class act! Gotta love her!
Ginger chooses to chop Pandora and unfortunately…yeah…it’s her time. She’s too in her head. But I do love her forgotten catchphrase on the way out! At this point I have Ginger and TKB in the top, but I'm curious if Kylie, Ra'jah or Eureka can step it up! And where's this game within a game shenanigan?! Do we get that next week??? As always, hit me with your thoughts/opinions/frustrations/meditations on the episode! And enjoy your weekends, y'all! ❤️G
