We start the ep with the departure of Silky as the smoke still settles on the HOUSE FIRE that Laganja set off with that leeeegendary lip sync. More like, legenDAIRY...cuz she milked it....and I'm all like, Got Milk? I'd like some! Okay! And we're off!
The queens go through the box o'lipsticks and it was a closer call between Silky and A'keria then even I thought. Queens own up to their votes for A'keria and she responds with "When you take those things personally you put yourself back in the space of whooping your own ass” which I would like for someone to immediately put on a pillow and sell on Etsy.
Jan starts off our episode with lovely frantic energy saying she's going to unleash her wrath...which is likely some polite and EARNEST WRATH. The kinda wrath that gets good grades. Can't wait!
This weeks challenge is an All Stars 6 Hall of Fame Halftime show!
SPORTS! SPORTS! SPORTS!
It's also a musical tribute to… RuPaul … and they laugh and they laugh and they laugh.
The queens have pre-selected iconic halftime show performers that they'll have to emulate while singing a RuPaul song. Iiiiiiiiiinteresting! I like this challenge! As the queens all reveal the musical legends they've chosen I couldn't help but think how great the match ups were! Ginger has Fergie and I was secretly hoping she'd just piss her pants on stage and call it a set, Pandora is doing Carol Channing (again) but I didn't know she did the first ever halftime show (always be learning), and I can't help but love that TKB doesn't know who Steven Tyler is saying “whoever he is sounds pretty masculine”. And I laughed and I laughed...
They get into their huddles and start to prep. Jan has Lady Gaga and is absolutely convinced this is hers to lose. Jan talking about her confidence, while wearing the Gaga wig and no makeup, to me, looked like an excited Fabio impersonator off the clock. I loved it. Meanwhile, Scarlet is bopping around in a left shark costume having normal conversations and it killed me.
TKB has taken on Beyonce...which is a bit of a curse on drag race...but also MY FAVORITE HALF TIME SHOW OF ALL TIME. I watch it at least every other month to pump myself up. If you've never seen it PLEASE TREAT YOURSELF. IT WASN'T EVEN HER HALFTIME SHOW. SHE WAS SUPPORTING COLDPLAY LOLOLOL. But her and Bruno Mars were ICONIC. But, mostly her.
So we get into our choreo rehearsals and Ginger is all heart eyes on Jamal, A'keria explains that “my dancing skills are as follows……………................” WONDERFUL, Jan is a spaz, Yara correcting the Shakira choreo is classic Yara and TKB looks GOOD. This isn't gonna be a half time show...it's gonna be a full time show!! Or, just insert an appropriate sports analogy!
It's elimination day and watching Kylie cut Ra'jah's nose hairs with scissors that close woke me all the way up. Also seeing TKB bonding with A'keria and Ra'jah about them never admitting that TKB is trade made my heart very happy.
Okay it's showtime and RU looks like a Grecian Goddess who lost the lower half of her dress to a wind machine and I love it. Scandalous! Now onto the performances:
Ginger: I guess she looks like Fergie?? Who does she remind me of? Oh no wait, she looks like one of the Judds upgraded
Eureka: lol the gap in the teeth
Ra’jah: those lashes!
Yara: she looks like Shakira … but something seems off?
Scarlet: this is so dumb and I love it
Kylie: Steven looks great! Am I turned on?
Jan: perhaps her energy is best fed through chaotic Gaga choreo?
A'keria: that ass!
Pandora: looks great but meh
TKB: That wig! That choreo! That wind machine! Those shoulders! THAT WIG!!!!
Whew! I think they all did great! Water break! Ya know, cuz sports!
And now onto the runway, category is: The FRILL of it all....
My quick notes:
Ginger: little bo peep is a woman and doesn't need those damn sheep
Eureka: Dolly Barbie chaps
Rajah: Glenda the good bitch
Yara: Is this frill? It's windmill hair...so sure... I love Yara's brain
Scarlet: This reminded me of a show I used to watch that's probably now problematic called My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding ... it was on THE LEARNING CHANNEL
Kylie: Love this jellyfish futuristic situation that also reminds me to recycle for some reason
Jan: it's the Mulan RU and she's can can Jan...you can can, Jan!
Pandora: it’s cute but is it too subtle?
TKB: that's some real housewives realness
Akeria: WOWOWOW AND ALSO WOWOWOWOW the symbolism of blossoming is not lost on me!
Then we get to judging and everyone did well! So they initially say. Jan is our winner and THANK GOD bc they have been really trying to break Jan these past couple weeks. If Jan didn't get a win this week I think we wouldn't be living the Jantasy anymore, we'd be living the Jan-nervous breakdown. Though, we cannot forget that TKB WAS INCREDIBLE AS BEYONCE. We end up with A'keria and Yara as our bottom two while I thought it'd be Ginger and Yara. 🤷🏼♀️
Overall, this challenge is, in my opinion, wildly skewed because some queens had intense choreo to take on while taking on their pop icons and some queens had...like...holding the mic while remembering to look up to take one. It's not the fairest way to judge performance. Again 🤷🏼♀️.
Backstage, Yara doesn’t want to plead her case bc Yara does whatever Yara wants. Meanwhile A’keria said she’s gonna fall out of the ceiling and eat books to stay and, you know what, I appreciate that.
Jan goes up against lip sync assassin Jessica Wild from season 2 - a season I haven't seen but now need to go back and watch! (Side note: I love how Yara always has a shit ton of lip stick in her teeth on the side lines.) Jessica gets wild and wins and reveals that the group voted for Yara to sashay away. Yara immediately goes “bye! Thank you so much” and then just leaves without saying anything else hahahaha. Yara does whatever Yara wants!
*an hour later*
Yara gets her clue to stay for the game within a game while trying to trudge out of the werkroom in a robe like a husband that got kicked out of his house in the middle of the night lolololol
And there we have it! What an episode! I didn't think A'keria deserved as harsh judging as she got this week...I also think they didn't put the queens up equally against each other in this challenge, even though I do think it was a fun challenge. I think TKB is doing great and hope she continues to shine...other than that I don't know who else I'm rooting for since everyone seems to be doing okay. I think Pandora is falling into the background, as is Scarlet and Kylie...but it's still hard to tell who the front runners are. Let me know your thoughts!!! Happy Friday, patrons!!! ❤️G

It's a bit questionable when so many of the match ups seemed so spot on. And I'm with you that I love Scarlet's subtle silliness this season - she's so much funnier than I remembered her being!

And yes I totally agree with the fact that Jan's Gaga seemed to have the most effort but not the most pay off. TKB did Beyonce as naturally as Beyonce does Beyonce! And funny you should ask about live reactions! I was actually going to start filming my recaps instead of writing them out. I almost did it for this one but chickened out last minute - maybe I'll try next week but I'd love to see your reactions!

2021-07-10 16:40:33 +0000 UTCi really enjoyed this episode but you’re right grace about what was expected of them in the challenge not being equal! like some of the queens had no virtually no choreo whilst some had a lot. some of them we didn’t see any rehearsal footage for which mostly confirmed to me that that specific queen would just be safe. scarlet in the werkroom out of drag in the left shark costume absolutely SENT me i’m a jan and gaga stan so i was THRIVING this week! to me, she fully deserved to win that challenge i’m so obsessed and impressed with what she did. she really did an incredible job and impersonated gaga perfectly. when she put her foot up on that piano i was like ‘oh she’s nailed this!!!!!’. absolute full props to trinity tho! i’m so proud of her growth both as a performer and her interactions with the rest of the queens since season 6. i *almost* thought she was going to win but i think ian’s runway look edged it for her.

2021-07-10 01:08:27 +0000 UTCSo I thought this week was super interesting bc the queens all clearly came to the show having already "picked" their Superbowl performer, which is great since then we get good outfits and performances and no drama with queens wanting to pick the same ones etc. BUT. It makes me think that they all probably got given 2-3 performers to choose from, so I think some of the queens got done dirty. (If they got to pick from everyone, why wouldn't Ginger do like, Shania Twain or something?? And Carol Channing just HAPPENS to be the first ever Superbowl performer? And Pandora picks her? ok.) So while I do think this episode may have been overproduced, I'm glad Jan got the win, even though I think TKB is the real winner this episode because of the intense Beyonce glow-up. (Even Bianca Del Rio said she was wrong lol). Loved Jan's Moulin Ru outfit though, the colours were so good and stood out against everyone else on stage. Also I could NOT get over Scarlet just hanging out in the workroom in the left shark costume. She's never been my fav queen, but now I have a special place in my heart because that was just SO GOOD. Ugh. I think everyone is doing a great job this season, I'm impressed!

Also what iconic Fergie-isms are there. The only thing I can think of is when she sang the National Anthem in all 12 major keys, but that wasn't even Superbowl! Did not love, and it all stemmed from her poor choice. - Eureka: bruh what. Madonna didn't do high kicks but go off.... - Ra'jah: Ooooo I like it. I don't know a lot about Ms. Ross, but I thought she did a great job. - Yara: that body is everything. that lip sync is not happening. this performance is bad. - Scarlet: I LIVE. I love that she was the left shark. I love that she had a reveal (granted, you could see the reveal showing). Also, Miss Scarlet is selling merch of her as left shark ON A FUCKING SPEEDO. She's making the Zach from the Try Guys "am I the clitoris?" face and when I saw this on Twitter I thought it was a joke, but it's real. (if you get the reference, god bless you). - Kylie: Drag King! I thought this was very middle of the road. I love that Kylie decided to go drag king though, that was a bold choice. - Jan: y'all.....i didn't live like everyone else..Like it was good, but it wasn't iconic to me. It very much felt like "i'm a Gaga super fan who thinks that i can do the best Gaga impersonation." but it was meh. - Pandora: it happened - TKB: THIS IS A WINNER. THIS IS HOW YOU CLOSE AND STEAL THE SHOW. I SCREAMED AT MY COMPUTER WHEN THIS WAS HAPPENING. - A'keria: With an ass like that, she should rename herself to Shakeria davenport because those hips don't lie (i'll see myself out) - I was whelmed by this challenge. I had higher hopes, and I didn't really enjoy the outcome. - Runway: For the Frill of it All - Ginger: My Fair Lady. I love it. This is the fashions that I want Ginger to bring because I don't know what the fuck she was wearing last week - Eureka: This is what Ginger was wearing last week, but in pink and accessorized to be a Cowgirl. and the judges liked it??? what on God's sinking earth is going on up in here on this day. I can't. - Ra'jah: This bitch looks EXPENSIVE - Yara: Is she supposed to be a helicopter? Bc she better fly out of here with this bullshit - Scarlet: I like it!!! The only thing I wish is that she didn't have the silver heart across her mid section, but otherwise this was funny (side note for when Carson said House of Lebeige and I screamed) - Kylie: Must be jellyfish because jam don't shake - Jan: Very what Rosé wore at the S13 finale, but in dark colors. I love Maroon so I love this - Pandora: She looks like a haunted antique doll. OH MY SHE WAS GOING FOR A DOLL IM PSYCHIC. And just like how the doll is an inanimate object, I don't live. - TKB: Needs bigger hair. Very pageant and I'm not mad, but it needed a little bit more. Those earrings are huge. - A'Keria: This is how you do a runway. Need I say more? Ok fine I will, THIS LOOKS BEAUTIFUL! - Who I thought were tops and bottoms: Top: TKB, Kylie and either Ra'jah or A'keria. Bottom: Ginger, Eureka, Yara. - I do NOT agree with these judgings! No ma'am! A'keria in the bottom? I liked her performance a LOT more than Eureka's! Eureka done did nothing! - OK JESSICA WILD I SEE YOU!!!! - OK JAN I WISH I DIDN'T SEE YOU DURING THAT LIP SYNC! - Jessica stomped on Jan - What in the Jackie Cox is Jan doing? (if you don't remember, please watch the Kill the Lights lip sync, you will see many noncinematic parallels) - Rip Yara - They done did Yara dirty with that "Jessica is my best friend" soundbite - Yara: Fuck You! Me: is she serious or is it a joke? Question: do y'all wanna see me live reacting in the moment to the episode? in a similar vain (vane? vaein?) to when you, Grace, reacted to the S13 finale? I feel like that seems like the move for one of these weeks. Maybe Snatch Game. DRINK SOME WATER, GOODBYE HAVE A GREAT WEEK

Jan slayed obviously, and I'm thrilled for her! So well deserved. And TKB!!!!! She broke the Beyoncé curse! We've finally had a good Beyoncé impersonation on RPDR!! Thank GAWD!!! She truly slayed.
