DragRace Episode 2: Elliott with 2 ...much TEA?!

Hello Patrons! And Happy Saturday to you all! How are you holding up? What a fucking week, right?? Sheesh. My sincerest congrats to all of us on making it through THE. FIRST. WEEK. OF. THE. YEAR.

Good lord. *attempts death drop but is too tired*

Please remember to rest when you can and soften the power drill of mania on your mind with whatever most relaxes you! Which pleasantly brings us to DRAG RACE. I don't know about you, but this episode was SUCH a necessary mental solvent for all the sweaty, brick-brained fuckery that's been happening this week. I couldn't get my dried out, bloodshot eyes on it fast enough! And oooohhhh what a dose of sassy, sparkly eye drops it was for my CNN-strained peepers!

But this episode had me all hot in the butt right from the start! I jumped off the couch as soon as they announced that the Pork Chop lounge ladies had to vote off one of their fellow losers. I thought that was some psychological-Survivor-treachery right out of the gate! Then my brain started spiraling .... there's no way? ...would they? ...they might? ...they can't ...they could ...no, whoever gets voted is going to be a team captain ...or whoever gets voted is actually going to have immunity ...OMG THEY HAVE TO PRESERVE THE DEMOCRACY OF IT ALL!!!!

*attempts death drop but...again... is too tired*

Well, Elliott with two Ts got the vote and my in-home Elliott was pissed ...but intrigued (though, that's his natural resting emotional state). My hot butt became a sad butt for Elliott and the rest of the ladies on account of they'd been put through such an immediate emotional roller coaster! Think of how long it took them to pack their wigs!!! Secretly, though, I was relieved that my awkward-queen-crush, Utica, was saved...I didn't want to see that little Nightmare Before Christmas queen leave so soon!

But low and behold Elliott didn't sashay away ... he shantayed his tiny Derrick Barry body into the group of winning queens and competed against them this week.

The draaaama!

The queens accepted him like a group of sweet, stressed out pageant girls smiling through their vaseline'd teeth because they have no idea what's really going on. Suspicion, like their setting powder, started to bake with Kandy and Tina leading the charge of unintelligible shady murmurs that I couldn't understand, but could tell by the use of their facial expressions ...were shady. Side note: This episode has confirmed Kandy's (whom I love) super power of a passionate, but impossible to understand, cadence that is so intoxicating you  feel like you're drunk while listening to her (see also: Bob the Drag Queen's TikTok above).

But the ladies kept it moving and competed in their first official mini challenge! They stomped the runway in delicate daytime and nasty nighttime looks. How fun! First of all, this challenge completely confirmed my love for Gottmik. And! Oh! Fun(ny) fact! When I told Mamrie I was doing these recaps here on Patreon she reminded me that we actually met and hung out with Gottmik at Gigi Gorgeous' wedding two summers ago! I COMPLETELY FORGOT! (I was obviously also not completely sober 😬) How fun!

Regardless, I absolutely fell in l-l-l-love with Gottmik's pop-art-sunshine-teletubbies-set latex dress and Morticia Addams nighttime goth gown. *high fashion chef's kiss* I also freaked out over Symone's ... everything. The 90s striped suit with the zipped open shoulders COME ON. To be honest, I thought everyone nailed those runways. Though my favorite part was probably Elliott trying to walk back into the workroom in her lady magician from the 1800s sex dress.

In the maxi challenge they had to create their own lyrics and choreo to Ru's new song (what a shocker) and it's ...messy. Elliott is a choreographer IRL but keeps that on the DL since she just got resurrected from taking 3 Ls (as LaLaRi so PERFECTLY put it in her talking head). Gottmik panics when his lyrics play and reveal he's a trans man before he has a chance to explain it to anyone. The next day Gottmik and Olivia Lux have the ABSOLUTE SWEETEST CONVO (I mean, call a fucking dentist, I need a root canal it was so damn sweet) that gives Gottmik a chance to explain his story and gives the audience a chance to see that Olivia's guts are as gorgeous as her smile. Ugh. What a LOVELY moment to take in after a week like this. Cue: 🎶Oh Mickey you're so fine 🎶

I'm getting a little long winded so I'll wrap it up. The ladies, like a group of bitchy skin doctors, question Elliott's mole status. She assures them she's on their level and they all side-smile through their vaseline'd teeth again and get through their performance. Kandy botches some choreo while Gottmik gets in his own head but there's no time to worry because it's time for a lamé runway! And yes I did google wtf lamé was so don't worry, Lala, you're not alone! All of their takes on the lamé theme were different and I appreciated that. But there were three for me: Gottmik served, Olivia shined and Symone fucking slaaaaayed. Though Gottmik and Kandy were worried about their group performance it didn't matter BECAUSE NO ONE WAS GETTING ELIMINATED THIS WEEK!!!! THERE IS SOME GOOD IN THE WORLD!!!! Instead, the top two, Olivia Lux and Symone, lip sync for a cash tip and the worlds next super star, Symone, came out on top! Seriously though, I was fucking WOW'd by Symone. I mean, Olivia is stunning but someone has to consult Neil Degrasse Tyson because, like Ross said, Symone is a STAR. (also did anyone else catch Elliott fucking losing her mind for the lip syncs in the back??? I LOVED IT!)

My take away this week is that Symone, Olivia and Gottmik are the ones to beat. Kandy is absolutely hilarious but her mouth, even though I'm not sure what she says 90% of the time, might get in the way. Tina is fantastic but I can't quite figure out why I haven't fallen in love with her yet. LaLaRi has a fire in her that I can't wait to see more of. And Elliott with two T's has to take her two legs and stand up for what she's good at ...while being cautious not to get cast as the Derrick-Berry-showgirl-showoff-backup-dancer. My only gripe with the this week's episode is that I have to wait another week to see the other half of the queens! I want to see them all together already! But patience is a Virgo or something like that. As always this got longer than I anticipated and my brain is melting like Tina Burner's foundation so I gotta go. But let me know your thoughts!!! Have a great rest of your weekends! ❤️*attempts death drop but passes out* G

Wow what an episode! I saw someone on Twitter say this feels like watching an All Stars season but you don’t know any of the queens and I couldn’t agree more. The makeup, looks, and level of lip sync sorcery is definitely All Stars caliber! As sad as I was that we didn’t get to see the eliminated queens this episode, I like that they split into two groups so every queen could shine. I’m also so happy no one got sent home, giving the girls multiple chances to show what they got before getting eliminated. Im also so happy Elliott didn’t get sent home, what they were doing to the queens in the pork chop lounge was straight out of the Saw franchise. Olivia Lux is such a shining star, I could not keep my eyes off of her during the group performance. Her lip sync ability is legendary, it’s amazing to see such a talented and humble queen with such little experience. Her and Symone were neck and neck in that lip sync it was hard to pick a winner. Overall another fantastic episode, I can’t wait for next week!

I love absolutely EVERYTHING about this!!

Yes! They all brought excellent fashion and knowing that they can ALL kill a lip sync makes me just more excited to watch the next episodes! And agreed that Olivia is incredible for such limited experience. She also seems like she has such an openness to learn from other queens and isn’t, like, crotchety and dead set in her ways - she’s going to be unstoppable!

I made the possibly great parenting choice of watching with my 2 feral kids. Who are now playing drag race with buzz light-year, Woody and a ken doll (who lets be honest, would definitely be dressing in drag himself anyway) What a way to spend my Sunday. Loving the breakdown of the weeks episodes. 💜

I was very pleased with the fashion in this episode. So many great looks. As happy as I was for the EllioTT twist though I kept thinking "B...b...but what about the rest of them? Did the lady really say "Go Home!"?". Thank God for the little next episode preview snippet at the end. I was actually rooting for Olivia on the winners' lipsync though. I absolutely love Symone but Olivia really surprised me by going for a comedic lipsync. I didn't think she had it in her. That Queen is going places fast. Also, the line "Suspicion, like their setting powder, started to bake..." is one of the best things I've read 🤣

SUCH a stunning strut! Can’t wait to see more!

Yeah I feel that too, she has strong NY queen vibes. I'm kinda excited to see Rosé and Tina meet, dramaaaa!

Symone is stunning. Her 90s day/night fashion as she STRUTTED down the runway. Obsessed. Also, "patience is a virgo or something like that" LOLOLOL these reviews man. 😂

Even though she wasn't on this episode, I have an eerie feeling Rosé is going to get a villain edit too! She seemed completely unstressed and almost excited to vote off a queen in the porkchop lounge! Plus, she has beef with Tina (apparently) and (maybe) Olivia since Olivia beat her in the lip sync! NYC Queens! Wow, on a side note do Grace or Mamrie have any stories about NYC queens from when y'all lived there?

Sashay ... your way to an available platform for you to watch this wonderful program!

That’s my hope too!!!!

Chef’s kiss to this WHOLE POST! Agreed that Lala has something positively special and Symone served us a season of variety in one episode - I hope she can keep it up! She’s got that effortless magic that puts you at ease when you watch her! And yes on the delivery of Elliott - *insert joke about her working her USP(AS)S off this week*

Definitely agree lala had a great runway - the fun part is that I don’t see any obvious weak links yet! Only in drag race can I say, with strong conviction that I “need to know what is happening with the losers”!

Ya know I hadn’t even considered that it could be a COVID-related split and you’re so right! Eggs on my face!

God dammit, you keep doing great reviews and I'm going to have to find a way to watch the show. Is that what I really need in my life, sounds like it

Both Kandy and Tina rubbed me the wrong way with how they were treating Elliott. Elliott's question to Kandy wasn't even that shady and Kandy was acting like she had literally walked across the room and slapped her. Also, i think that next week the "Loser" queens will absolutely slay their episode and end up knocking the "winner" team off their high horses

Tina has the Nina west camp factor (if yall watched untucked you get it), but her personality this episode kinda rubbed me the wrong way. She is playing RuPaul’s Drag Survivor when she said “keep ur friends close and enemies closer” Her and Kandy were very shady to Elliott 2T’s in their confessionals for literally no reason. After this week, I think Kandy will do well bc her personality, but kinda coast on that. I didn’t really like any of her 3 runways. I didnt understand what the day-time look had to do with the day time, and the night look + her mug was kinda sloppy. Gottmik, Symone and Olivia are my top 3 from this group. The fact that Olivia has been doing drag for 12 days and looks that stunning should be a crime. Gottmik puts on the cosmesuticals and DAMN bc that mug is perfectly beat every time. Symone right now is my number 1 though. She has had some of the best runways, won 2 lip syncs, served us comedy, glamour and showed us her stage presence. LaLaRi’s gold runway was *chefs kisses* and there is something about LaLa that I love so much after these two weeks, but didn’t see in her Meet The Queens. Elliott really had that fire this episode and just like the postal workers, bitch she delivered.

Very surprised of the Elliott coming back. The reactions were everything . I think LaLaRi had the best runway but agreed with Olivia and Symone being chosen . I think Symone might be my favourite. Kandy is growing on me. Gottmik works it and might be the dark horse . Need to know what is happening with the Losers. What a twist.

I love that this season is different, I've watched every season since it first aired and it was getting predictable. I assume the split is due to covid restrictions and needing smaller groups on set, but it is actually almost better. You get to see more of everyone and who they are from the beginning. Elliott seems like she is going to be the underdog who gets underestimated.

“Well, Elliott with two Ts got the vote and my in-home Elliott was pissed ...but intrigued (though, that's his natural resting emotional state).” 💕😂 I have no idea what’s going on but this was still really fun to read! Thank you for the distraction from *gestures broadly*. Your writing style is always so fun and sweet :)

Long winded is welcome here! And yeah I can’t tell if they’re trying to give Kandy a villain edit but we shall seeeee! Now I just wanna see Denali off of them skates and Rose sing the house down and Utica get her goof on!

I was in love with Gottmiks rainbow moment! And the runways were great, I was just waiting for the other group to arrive and also do the song challenge, thought that would have been a fun twist. Kinda bummed that we have to wait another week to see them. I also didn't like that attitude of 'elliott just walked in when we worked hard' from Kandy, like, they are all on the same level right now? Sorry, I got long winded too! Can't get enough of Olivia's smile, okthnkxbyeeee!!

agreed all around!

I was underwhelmed by Kandy's runway looks and performance this week which made me sad because I really love her personality and she makes me laugh. I love Symone, Olivia and GottMik and see them going very far, all of them have great fashion.
