In middle school I had a hamster named Bridgette and her only goal in life was to escape. We had gotten one of those plastic cages with all the attachments for tubes and wheels and fun things for her, and she just chewed the latch on the door at the top to escape. So when we replaced that we got another one that was a lot taller. Much too tall for her to reach the top for sure. Or so we thought. See, we had also litter trained our hamster and she had a little "hamster potty" that in her cage. It was like this little enclosed hut thing with litter in it where she'd go do her business. At night she would move her potty to the middle of her cage, stand on top, and reach this little lip below the door at the top. She'd then do pull-ups throughout the night and move her potty back to the corner by morning. Every night she did this until she got strong enough to hang there and chew on that goddamn latch. When we could no longer latch it shut, the only thing we could think to do was weigh the lid down so she couldn't escape. We put half a dozen large cans of beans on there. A few days later we hear a crash from my room, and find this tiny little hamster who had been doing a workout routine to aid future escape was able to do a pull up and push ten pounds of canned goods off the lid. We got a metal cage after that and had no more problems but holy crap!
