These are all my initial thoughts and I'm not the best at wording things I feel so sorry if it sounds weird/doesn't make sense with what I'm trying to say in some areas. To start with the premise: Love it, the idea of taking care of an egg reflecting your person is really interesting and showcases a lot about the characters and how the world/they view them. Charles: While he wasn't present here, we get two different views of him and I'm leaning closer to what Alvena has to say about him than what Richard does (sorry besty, but you have shown to not be able to read people well and are blinded by your need for acceptance and praise). It's sad to me how the omen of a broken egg reflecting a death of some kind was brought up with him (especially when we get to our later analyses). With the knowledge of the future, his egg being protected reflects pretty well on him as a king (as a father and husband? Well...) but it's funny too because the eggs of everyone else in the family breaking still kinda spelt misfortune for them. Alvena: Her egg being safe because she imagined it was her kids was touching, but I also read that protection of hers in a slightly selfish way. Don't get me wrong, she clearly loves us and would do anything for her kids, but with the knowledge of some of the things she says in the main story, she does see them as tools to prove herself to Isabelle and Charles. IMO this trait of hers is actually reflected in all three of her kids (depending on how we play the prince(ss). Isabelle: Not much to say here. Her egg's status being dependent on Richard's does seem to imply that what happens to one will happen to both and I hate that for us <3. Arnold: Sir Arnold being uncomfortable with the idea of allowing misfortune in and choosing not to participate was interesting to me. He seems down to earth and I suppose the story of Charles' family probably does have some level of credence (believe in something hard enough and you'll start seeing it everywhere.) Richard: Oh Richard, I feel like you were failed by all the adults around you because you so DESPERATELY look for the approval of the adults around you (namely your parents, Charles specifically) and you let that sway you into whatever they think is right. His nonchalance regarding the egg and how it's not that big of a deal (even recommending to Clara that they cheat) displays a certain lack of empathetic thinking to me. Sure, it's not a living thing, but that doesn't mean you should act like it doesn't matter if it breaks. Atheris calling him out for his sudden 180 with what Charles said probably heavily affected this, seeing as he did seem eager to take an egg when Isabelle gave him the go ahead. I think that's what really gets me about Richard and his side of the family (plus Charles) because he really is a sensitive guy who just wants to feel like he belongs, but can't even find that in his home because Alvena poisoned her kids against him (or at least tries to with us and possibly Freya?) and I'm sure Isabelle and Charles did the same about us. As bad as I can see Atheris' upbringing before Freya, Richard is the ONLY one and it really shows how he has nothing really with how he tries to casually play off Atheris' sniping. Atheris: To me she REALLY reflects the best and worst of Alvena. She is FIERCELY protective of everything she considers to be "hers" but that comes at the cost of being very direct and lacking in warmth. "There is no softness in her grip. She does not show love, but she means to keep it safe from anyone who might try to take it. " As much as she may hate to hear it, I think she and Richard are parallels of each other. Where Richard tries to detach and hide inside himself, Atheris decided that she would lash out and prevent others from hurting her. She has seen the longest the clear bias towards Richard and has been pushed the hardest to be better than him and at every turn she does her best to not only be better than him, but to really shove it in his face that he is nothing. Freya: Freya is attentive and loving, but she loses sight too quickly, is too passive, and gives into her emotions. The moment her letters would have been revealed to Atheris, she immediately forgot about her egg and cracked it to stop her sister from seeing the letters. I do think this is partially due to the grilling and judgement from her, but I think part of this does have to do with her not setting proper boundaries first. Atheris was just freely going through her stuff and she hadn't said anything. This event really doesn't bode well for her (and possibly us) as we know she gets an even bigger secret later that will most likely be used against her (and us). Clara: She's sweet and very loving. This is both her greatest strength, but also her greatest weakness. Again, a case of knowing how the main story goes does reflect in my analysis of her, but Clara's love (platonic and romantic) and the egg I look at as kind of a parallel to her and the sibling tension. She wants to keep everyone she loves safe and happy, but doesn't take the time to look at how that is affecting them and can even be a smothering force that makes them crack.
