So there are many factors and way that you can achieves it: 1. you can start from a dark basecoat and then leave it in the recesses and that way you don't have to paint it later 2. you can add it later and if you overpaint, you gotta fix it with the surrounding colors 3. practice to be neat and precise

Yes, just water is fine. I have a PDF guide on how to thin your paint in the basics, but the only thing you gotta know is that a glaze is just like a regular layer, but thinner. As long as there is decent translucency, it's good to use, just make sure that you wick off the excess

I didn't say that I like much how it turned out. I can see you have a really fine black line between the skin and cloth and so on. I'm wondering how you manage this? When I try to do it, for instance on a shoulder pad of a Space Marine it looks bad, always way too thick or uneven...

How can I tell if my thinned paint is suitable for glazing? Is tap water OK (in Germany, normally our water doesn't contain chlorine) or should I use thinner?

Borris Jung

you can do both, but pick one of the two - usually I got from dark to the lighter color and then ad the end correct anything I don't like. If I am only glazing, the pressure won't impact the paint application too much!

So, quick question, when you glaze over the two layers of skin tone, which color do you use for the glaze? The lighter or the darker color? Also, how much pressure did you apply? Was it more of a gentle flick?
