April Roundup #1

Hey everybody! Sorry for the silence in the first half of April! As per usual, I've been super busy with the softball graphic novel! 

Honestly, it's not exactly per usual, because I'm trying to get as many pages ready to ink as possible because our COLORIST IS STARTING IN MAY! Which is EXTREMELY EXCITING! Right now I'm going back through the first 100 pages (of this roughly ~275 page book) which were all drawn at least a year or two ago, and bringing them into the current style. I'm also drawing a few scenes added to the script to beef up character development. For some reason, back then, I thought it was a good idea to start penciling without?? having placeholder text on the pages??? THAT WAS A BAD AND DUMB IDEA!! I think it was probably a bad habit I'd picked up during all those years I worked on Regular Show and Adventure Time comics. I was only one cog in a much larger machine and never had contact with writers, letterers, or colorists, and Boom Studios didn't really give notes!! But I actually care about this project a lot lol, so I want these pages to look their best and that means squishing things around so there's enough breathing room for the text. 

Here are some recent edits: 

The character designs changed a bit, so a lot of this work has been redrawing everybody's heads across 100 pages haha. I also needed to do a bit of page/panel resizing. I'm dropping some of the backgrounds because they're kind of unnecessary and when I was drawing these I had this weird idea that this needed to look Very Unlike Sakana because it was a Brand New Project. But you can clearly see that I've slipped back into a more Sakana-like style at this point because IT'S WHAT I'M GOOD AT, IT WAS DUMB TO TRY AND DENY THAT.

My prompt for this black-haired lady was "extreme himbo energy" so I'm trying to honor that. 

So, I will probably continue to be pretty busy with edits and finishing up pencils through the rest of April, but I'll find time for some RR content before the end of the month, I assure you! Next I'd like to do a redraw of this *feelings*(tm) doodle that's like 5 years old.

I also wanted to do a NSFW illustration drawing inspo from 80's bathroom design?? I love weird 80s bathrooms??? I'm talking this kind of weird tiles and tub stairs and funky colors stuff. In my very cool brain, I can see this translating to sci-fi very easily?? Idk it makes sense to me!!! 

I will not be drawing carpet on the floor though, some things should stay dead. 

In any case, I need to put out some new NSFW content! Look out for that!
