August Roundup #2

Hey everybody! I hope you had a good August! Here's your 2nd roundup of the month! 

CONVENTIONS

OTAKON 2021 is in the books! It felt FANTASTIC to get back to cons, and everybody seemed to be jazzed to be there. There was a really great, laid-back energy to the whole event that felt much gentler than previous years. Everybody was good about masks and keeping distance, the artist alley was nice and spaced out, and the floor never felt overly crowded. Taking the train from Boston to DC was LONG, but more comfortable than flying or driving, and I got to visit my parents in Philadelphia on the way home. All in all: a great experience! Here's some pics:

I was also taking commissions, but I forgot to take pics of a lot of them. I posted some choice Robber/Robert comms on my nsfw twitter, and here are some portraits I finished:

My next convention will be MINI-MICE in Cambridge, MA. I don't have to travel far at all for this one! Here's some info:

It's a two-day outdoor con with different artists on each day. I'll be there on Saturday from 12pm - 4:30pm! Masks required! 

SAKANA

Still planning on the relaunch in early 2022! After this long break, I need to take a VERY hard look at how I originally planned to end the series, and how my storytelling tastes have changed since the comic's beginning in 2010. I think I'm a much better writer at this point, so I hope that doesn't sound too ominous! I'm really looking forward to getting back into it later this year, and I think I'm going to try working a chapter at a time instead of going strip by strip. Maybe I'll have a BUFFER?? For the first time in the comic's decade+ history??? Incredible!!! 

ROBBER/ROBERT

Chapter 1, the covers, and the bonus comic are finished, so I've moved on to BONUS PAGES for the eventual printed book. The Kickstarter is tentatively scheduled for January or February of 2022, so mark your calendars! Here's a sfw sample from a bonus page: 

GRAPHIC NOVEL

Still truckin' on pencils! I went wild and penciled 3 pages the other day SOMEHOW. Trying to reverse-engineer those conditions so I can pick up the pace! 

OBELINE

I've been taking a break from writing this doofy fantasy epic so I can focus on the final Sakana volume and the next chapters of Robber/Robert, but it's there. It's there, taunting me in the back of my mind. Watching, WAITING. Anyway, here are some doodles of the two main characters, Quill and Maliver:

OTHER STUFF

Considering vegetables and bugs as my next forays into sticker design??? I like both of those things a lot. Here's an idea for a centipede sticker, but it's not quite where I want it to be just yet. Not really sure what I should write on the ribbon or if there should even BE a ribbon. Do YOU have any ideas?? 

And that's about it for August! In closing, here are some pics of my very small, very old dog Gizmo, whose greatest joy is baking himself like a cookie in the sunny grass out back.
