Opening the Portal - Composition Screencast Part 1 - Concept, Theme & General Approach
Added 2021-04-12 08:29:52 +0000 UTCWelcome to the start of a brand new piece! I haven't written a "mysterious" track in a while and wanted to give it a go. For this piece, I recorded the entire process from inception to fully fleshed out mockup as many of you have requested so the parts will get considerably longer than on the last piece for the composition screencasts.
The piece in the end will turn out quite challenging with a lot of octatonic, hexatonic and clustery shenanagans, so if you're into diving deeper into this world, you should stick around for the coming parts.
In this very first part, I talk about the idea behind the track and theme and also discuss quite a bit how "the shoulders that we stand on" has a considerable influence on how I'm approaching this track, so this one is a bit more philosophical before we get to the actual work in the next parts.
Looking back at this from now when this piece is almost finished, it is quite interesting how I mention that I want to not make it "too complex" for these first pieces. Well, I can predict that it's going to get quite advanced in the coming parts so this didn't work out too well :)
