We’ve had some really annoying news today.
Apple have added a 30% fee on top of all future sign-ups made via the app. It’s disgusting. It’s literally a trillion dollar company whacking a 30% levy on creators and their fans.
They’re doing this by making all new sign-ups use their “in app purchases” system.
As far as we can tell; this only affects sign-ups made through the Apple Store’s App. If you sign-up via the website on a standard browser, then download and log-in to the app, the 30% isn’t added on. We’ve just tested this.
Also, this only affects future sign-ups, not current members. UNLESS…
If your card payment fails for any reason and your membership defaults, when you sign back up - if you do this via the Apple Patreon app, it will charge you the extra.
So… if your account defaults, make sure when you sign back up it’s via a Browser. That’s it really for you lot… the bad news will only really affect any future patreons.
