A Look At Class: UK and US Country Homes

I've finally got a bit of time and in the next few days I'll be catching up on Ted Lasso, Vikings and OFAH. My apologies. The last 2 months have been absolutely fucking stupid.

These houses are really Stately Homes. Most rural English houses are as varied as the houses you showed near where you live. There is also a large income disparity between rural and urban areas and many places people have been priced out of where they grew up by rich people buying up second homes and buy to let. There is also the difference in house prices. The average price of a house in Newcastle is £210,000, whereas in the part of South London I live, the average house price s £603,000, and rental prices are similarly disparate. I have to say that I really enjoyed this video. The area you showed of your local region is incredibly beautiful, the houses are also much larger than the average rural house in the UK and they have much more land.

2025-06-30 12:05:03 +0000 UTCYour lords of industry built mansions, the lords of industry in the UK built estates. They were inspired by royalty, so the designs had a palace like feel. Btw. The reason they aren't castles is because a castle is ultimately a military building designed to withstand a siege and allow it's owner to extend their power from that position.
